Brandon Royval completes five years of youth volunteer work
Brandon Royval has been volunteering at a Denver nonprofit for five years while maintaining his career as a UFC flyweight.
The former title challenger works with the Denver Dream Center, an organization that helps at-risk youth from low-income neighborhoods. Royval told the UFC 329 "Embedded" series that the program picks up kids from the area, feeds them, and builds relationships over time. "Five years I've been a volunteer there," he said, per Sherdog. "And it's cool cause most of the kids are in middle school or high school. So I've watched them become young adults and handle adversity. So it's been really cool and a real privilege."
How Royval balances camp and community service
Bryan Sederwall, a pastor at the Denver Dream Center, said Royval has stayed consistent throughout his commitment and keeps showing up for the kids even when he has a fight scheduled. That includes this weekend, when Royval meets Lone'er Kavanagh at UFC 329 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Royval is riding back-to-back losses to Joshua Van and Manel Kape. Kavanagh enters on a win over former champion Brandon Moreno that snapped his lone professional defeat.
UFC 329 takes place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.
