Boxxer Suffers A Big Blow As Debut BBC Show Postponed
Frazer Clarke’s British heavyweight title fight with Jeamie TKV has been postponed after the latter suffered an undisclosed injury.
The fight was set to take place on October 25, as part of Boxxer’s new broadcast deal with the BBC. However, the show has now been moved to November 29. Clarke had plenty to prove in this fight, having suffered a knockout loss to Fabio Wardley in October 2024. Prior to this, he was close to winning the British title when he secured a split draw with Wardley in the first fight.
While Clarke bounced back with a first-round knockout win over Ebenezer Tetteh in his last fight this April, the pressure was still on to perform on a big stage due to Boxxer’s new broadcast deal. Meanwhile, TKV’s was close to winning the British title when he faced David Adeleye. However, a controversial stoppage meant he came unstuck as he was ahead on the scorecards prior to this. The delay also has implications for Boxxer.
The Setback
"It’s amazing to be headlining on the BBC. It is such a big platform. There are going to be so many eyes on this fight, and I can’t wait to get out there and put on a show. I’ve always dreamed of winning the British title. I’m so hungry for this fight, so eager to get in there and finally make it mine. The fact it’s happening live on primetime BBC makes it even better.
"I’m going to be ice cold in there. I’ve travelled the world as an amateur, I’ve had my ups and downs as a pro, and I’ve learned from all of it. I’m seasoned, I’m hardened, and I’m more focused and determined for this fight than ever before. Jeamie is a solid all-round fighter, but I know the level I’m at and the work I’ve been putting in at the gym. He won’t hear the final bell. I’m a more complete fighter now than I’ve ever been, and with that comes knockouts. My mindset is simple: go in there, get the win, and make a statement. I’m not looking past Jeamie, but I will go straight through him,” Clarke had said before the postponement
Implications
The postponement is detrimental to Boxxer, particularly because it directly undermines the critical early momentum of their newly established broadcast deal with the BBC. The BBC platform offered boxing content to a whole new audience, outside of the big player such as Sky Sports and DAZN. For a fresh partnership, rescheduling a main event so close to the original date is a logistical and public relations headache. The delay also dilutes the narrative excitement that Boxxer relies upon to sell its events. The boxing landscape is very competitive. With an increasing number of shows and PPV events, there is no guarantee that the new date will be able to compete with other shows during that week.
