Boots Ennis targets Zayas titles: 'Ready to shut everybody up'

Jaron 'Boots' Ennis will challenge unified welterweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super welterweight champion Xander Zayas for his belts on June 27, and the Philadelphia contender is not short on confidence.

"I'm just excited to be fighting a guy that got two belts, a guy that's one of the top in the division. I'm ready to shut everybody up," Ennis said in behind-the-scenes footage released by Matchroom, per Bad Left Hook. "I'm expecting him to do what he always do and I'm going to capitalize on every mistake that he make and I'm going to show him why I'm really like that."

Bozy Ennis expects Zayas to bring out his son's best

Trainer Bozy Ennis, the fighter's father, sees the matchup as an opportunity for both men to elevate their games. He told the cameras he wants Zayas to push his son to another level, noting that fans have not yet seen everything Boots can do in the ring. The elder Ennis praised the champion's jab and boxing ability but acknowledged his son prefers to rumble — the style crowds pay to see.

Matchroom's camp footage shows Ennis chopping wood and making candy runs to carb-load ahead of the June 27 date. Zayas holds the unified straps at 154 pounds and represents the stiffest test yet for Ennis, who moves up in weight looking to claim his first championship in a second division.
