BKB partners with Zanfer Promotions for Mexico debut Sept. 19

Bare Knuckle Boxing has secured a partnership with Zanfer Promotions and will hold its inaugural Mexican event Sept. 19 in Tijuana, MMA Mania reports.

The card will feature BKB super cruiserweight champion Julian Fernandez, a Tijuana native who carries a 3-0 record with three stoppages. Fernandez won the belt via technical knockout over Alex Wilson at BKB 52 in March at Foxwoods and will defend in front of his home crowd. An opponent and venue details are expected soon.

What the Zanfer deal means for BKB's Latin American push

Zanfer Promotions, founded by Fernando Beltran, is considered the top boxing promoter in Latin America. Beltran said in a statement that Mexican fans "demand the very best in combat sports, and BKB delivers a raw, world class product unlike anything else in the market." He called the Sept. 19 championship night in Tijuana "only the beginning of what we will build together."

BKB CEO David Tetreault praised the partnership, telling reporters that Mexico is "one of the most important boxing markets in the world" and that launching with a title defense by Fernandez is "exactly the statement we want to make as we plant our flag in Mexico and across Latin America." Fernandez, 32, is the son of former pro fighter Pedro "Pitbull" Fernandez.

The promotion plans to announce additional Latin American events in the coming months. Streaming plans for the Tijuana card will be revealed with the full fight lineup.
