Bia Mesquita calls out Ailin Perez after UFC Vegas 119 win

Undefeated bantamweight Bia Mesquita wants a top-five opponent after submitting Melissa Mullins in the first round at UFC Vegas 119, and she already has a name in mind.

Mesquita weathered early adversity Saturday night when Mullins connected on the feet and wobbled the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace. But Mullins followed her to the mat, where Mesquita locked up a submission to stay perfect at 3-0 in the UFC, MMA Mania reports. All three wins have come by tapout.

Mesquita targets Perez after third straight submission

The 35-year-old called out No. 5-ranked Ailin Perez in her post-fight interview, referencing the Argentine's habit of twerking after victories. "Ailin Perez, hey, you're disgusting for this weight division," Mesquita said in the cage. "This is not a place for you to shake your ass. I'm going to kick your ass, girl."

Perez rides a six-fight win streak and just beat divisional staple Macy Chiasson, putting her within reach of a title shot. She relies on wrestling and top control, which has worked through her UFC run. Taking that approach against Mesquita carries obvious danger given the Brazilian is among the best pure jiu-jitsu competitors the promotion has ever signed.

Mesquita holds the No. 13 ranking at bantamweight but says she needs a step up in competition at this stage of her career. The matchup would pit Perez's mat pressure against one of the sport's elite submission threats.
