Dustin Poirier mugshot released after public drunk arrest
Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was arrested Sunday evening in Georgia on a misdemeanor public drunk charge, with his booking photo surfacing a day later.
Poirier was processed at 6:38 p.m. ET on June 21 and released around 10:15 p.m. the same night, TMZ Sports first reported. The 37-year-old appeared in court Monday morning, though details surrounding the circumstances of his arrest have not been disclosed. His mugshot shows visibly bloodshot eyes.
Poirier addresses arrest on Instagram
Shortly after word of the booking spread, Poirier posted a brief message on Instagram. "Love you all," he wrote, per MMA Mania. "I'm working on myself." Former fighter Ben Askren later claimed on social media that Poirier was "having a good time at the Airport" before the arrest and had wrestled with some of Askren's friends.
Poirier retired from mixed martial arts last July after losing to Max Holloway at UFC 318. He walked away with a 30-10 record and one no contest, having beaten Holloway twice earlier in his career along with victories over Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Eddie Alvarez, and Michael Chandler. He never won an undisputed UFC title despite two shots at the lightweight belt.
Public drunkenness in Georgia carries a potential fine and jail time upon conviction. Poirier's next court date has not been announced.
