Wint Admits No Kimura Defense In UFC Debut

Anthony Wint survived a kimura attempt in his UFC debut without knowing how to defend the submission.

Wint stopped Terrance Chatman with a first-round arm-triangle at UFC Sacramento after escaping the joint lock through sheer toughness. The undefeated heavyweight, who entered as a heavy favorite, struggled to secure takedowns before finally grounding Chatman late in the opening frame. When Chatman latched onto a kimura from bottom, Wint simply refused to tap.

Wint Plans Grappling Camp With Herbert Burns

"What defense? I didn't know what I was doing," Wint told Full Send MMA, per Sherdog. "I just said, 'You're gonna keep cranking it and I'm not gonna tap. Or you're gonna break my arm.'"

The former New York Jets linebacker made his Octagon debut on 11 days' notice after earning a contract on Dana White's Contender Series with a 34-second knockout. Wint said he plans to address the holes in his grappling under Herbert Burns now that fighting full-time allows him to train twice a day instead of working between sessions.

"We're gonna work on leg locks and stuff," Wint said. "Because now I don't have to work. The heavyweight division is in trouble."

Wint has finished seven of his eight career wins. He faces Chatman's next opponent to be announced.
