The UFC is seriously considering a rematch between Justin Gaethje and Ilia Topuria, according to longtime play-by-play commentator Jon Anik.
Topuria lost his lightweight title to Gaethje via fourth-round corner stoppage at UFC Freedom 250 in June. The Georgian was battered across multiple rounds before his team waved off the fight. It marked the first loss of his professional career.

UFC Considering Topuria Immediate Title Rematch
On the Anik Bros YouTube channel, the veteran broadcaster said internal discussions about running the fight back are happening now. "I think there are internal conversations to potentially try to do Gaethje vs. Topuria 2," Anik said, per MMA Fighting. He added that the promotion likely wants to capitalize on the massive success of UFC Freedom 250 by putting the former champion back in a title fight rather than a rebuild bout.
Gaethje has stated publicly that he does not believe Topuria deserves an immediate rematch. The champion has expressed more interest in avenging losses to Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira. Holloway recently stopped Conor McGregor in the first round after an injury, while Oliveira remains without a fight booked.

Gaethje told SI that both hands are still injured from the Topuria fight and that he will not compete again until 2027. That timeline could clear the path for Arman Tsarukyan to earn a title shot if he beats Mauricio Ruffy at UFC 331 on Sept. 19. A Tsarukyan loss would remove one obstacle to Topuria getting his rematch.
