Andy Ruiz Jr. signs multi-year Matchroom Boxing deal
Former unified heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. has signed with Matchroom Boxing, per ESPN.
The multi-year promotional agreement brings the Mexican-American heavyweight into Eddie Hearn's stable. Ruiz, who shocked Anthony Joshua in June 2019 to claim the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles at Madison Square Garden, has been a promotional free agent since his last outing.
What Matchroom deal means for Ruiz comeback
The move positions Ruiz for potential fights on DAZN cards against Matchroom's heavyweight roster. The 34-year-old from Imperial, California holds a professional record of 35-2 with 22 knockouts, though he lost the belts back to Joshua in their December 2019 rematch in Saudi Arabia.
Ruiz last fought in September 2022, stopping Luis Ortiz in the 9th round. Terms of the Matchroom contract were not disclosed. No debut date under the new promotional banner has been announced.
