Nate Diaz Faces Civil Lawsuit Over 2023 New Orleans Altercation
Nate Diaz has been issued with a civil lawsuit by influencer Rodney Petersen relating to an altercation in 2023 in New Orleans.
According to reports, the pair were engaged in a brawl on April 22 on Bourbon Street. This was after a Misfits Boxing show. The two were separated during the boxing event, as Diaz threw a water bottle at Peterson. A video then emerged showing Diaz choking Petersen unconscious. Diaz was then arrested after the incident, but the second-degree battery charges were dropped.
“Since Rodney Peterson sought out to fight Nate on Bourbon Street, we have maintained Nate’s actions were 100 percent in self defense. It was clear on the video, clear in pictures and clear from the multiple other videos Rodney posted before and after. Nate has a right to defend himself against those who want to make a name for themselves and did so. We appreciate the Orleans Parish District Attorney taking the time to review all aspects of this case and their decision to not proceed with it,” Zach Rosenfield (Diaz’s representative) said
Diaz’s Lawsuit
Now, the lawsuit shows another angle. Peterson claims he was trying to be a peacemaker against Diaz, who wanted to brawl. Peterson’s wife, Bobbie Petersen, is also a co-petitioner in the lawsuit. Peterson claims he has mental, physical, and emotional trauma. He is seeking damages, medical expenses and loss of earnings.
While that may have been the case, Petersen has boxed twice since the incident. Tristan Hamm knocked him out in Misfits. However, he redeemed himself, beating Cake Paul in a hype boxing event. This is the last thing Diaz needs since he is preparing to face Jorge Masvidal on June 1.
The two will have a rematch following their UFC 244 clash in 2019. Masvidal won the fight on that occasion. The bout was stopped at the end of the third round after Diaz suffered a cut over his eye. This time around, Diaz may have the upper hand.
Masvidal vs Diaz
Masvidal will make his boxing debut, while Diaz already has a taster of the ring. Nick faced Jake Paul last August. While he suffered a unanimous decision loss, he got off the canvas to make it to the final bell. This time, Diaz is confident he can get a win. For either of these fighters, there is a potential to secure a lucrative fight with Jake Paul, who will make his MMA debut in the PFL.
“I’m being so serious when I say that I want to fight them in MMA. Either Masvidal or Diaz, in the PFL, 10 million dollar offer for either one of those guys. Again, they will literally hide behind the fact … Masvidal: ‘You can’t even box. What the (expletive) are you going to do coming over to MMA, bro? I’m from Miami, Florida, bro! (Expletive) you, don’t disrespect me.(Expletive) bird brain, that’s what he hides behind,” Paul stated
