Mayer Picks Jonas To Beat Price - 'She Has More Experience'

Mikaela Mayer has picked Natasha Jonas to beat Lauren Price

Jonas faces Price on March 7 in their unification welterweight clash. Jonas enters into the bout with a win over Ivana Habazin. She was the IBF Welterweight Champion and left with the WBC Welterweight Belt, as she unified the division. It was the second time Jonas had unified in the sport, as she did the same at 154 pounds.

Price also boxed on the same card as she beat Bexcy Mateus to retain her WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine Belts. Mayer has an interest in the outcome of this fight since she holds the WBO belt at 147. That means Mayer is in a position to face the winner for the undisputed title. Jonas has more experience in the pro ranks. Her record stands at 16-2-1. Price’s record is a lot less, as she is undefeated but with only eight fights. Mayer felt Jonas had the edge in this fight.

Mayer Reacts

“I think Jonas wins that [Price] fight. When Lauren Price and Tasha Jonas get matched up, everyone’s so hyped up on Lauren Price, I wouldn’t necessarily put my money on her. I think that Jonas could beat her. She still has a very amateur style. So she’s going to box and she’s going to move. What Jonas is going to be is she’s going to be in and out.

“She has also more experience on her side. I don’t think it’s a shoe-in for Price to win that. [And] I think it’s up for grabs. I think it’s a really competitive fight. Jonas can’t let Price push her backwards, but for the most part Price doesn’t really push forward too much. She will in spurts but she likes to box and move,” Mayer said

Mayer’s Aim

Mayer also has to consider her own career. She has already faced Jonas in 2024, as she lost a controversial split decision. A lot of the boxing community felt Jonas got the decision since she was fighting in her hometown of Liverpool. But Mayer bounced back from the lost by beating Sandy Ryan to become the WBO Welterweight Champion. She rematches Ryan on March 29. Getting another win will be her focus.

“I’m better than all these girls, I feel like I can beat these girls. Just give me the opportunity, give me some fair judging and I just felt like the world doesn’t see it that way because boxing’s so cut throat in that sense. It feels like I’m back to where I’m supposed to be. I know now that it can be taken away at any second. I still feel like I have so much more to accomplish and prove. And I know how fast it can go away,” Mayer said
