Masvidal Doubts He Will Get The McGregor Fight

Jorge Masvidal has ruled out a fight with Conor McGregor, saying it is unlikely to happen.

McGregor has not had a UFC fight since his defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. The loss was his third defeat in four UFC bouts, as he suffered a broken leg. McGregor was on course to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29. However, he pulled out with a broken toe. The Irishman expects to be ready for August/September, although Dana White refused to entertain anything until McGregor was fit. McGregor has been linked with a Masvidal bout, but Gamebread does not see it happening.

Masvidal On McGregor

“He’s never mentioned my name. He’s never addressed me, only to say like stupid things or something, but he’s never addressed a fight with me or something because he is scared… If we can’t get him to get into the cage with a guy he’s convinced he can beat, what the [hell] will make him get in the cage with me? He knows that I’m not going to take him down. I’m not going to smother him or look for a submission. I’m going to beat the [hell[ out of him. From when that bell rings until it ends, I’m going to beat the [hell] out of him standing,” Masvidal said

Nevertheless, before that can even happen, Masvidal must get past his next fight. He will box Nate Diaz on July 6. It is a ten-round bout in a 175-pound clash. The fight is a rematch of their UFC 244 fight in 2019. On that occasion, Masvidal won to become the first BMF Champion. The fight was stopped at the end of round three after Diaz suffered a cut over his eye. Masvidal and Diaz have had one boxing bout each. Masvidal beat Joseph Benjamin in 2005 via a majority decision.

Diaz’s only boxing bout came last year when he lost to Jake Paul. Masvidal has plenty of other options. He has also been called out by Chael Sonnen for a boxing fight. Sonnen made the call out after his exhibition draw against Anderson Silva. While Masvidal said he is open to fighting him, it would have to be done in a pro-fight. The same can be said for Masvidal-McGregor. However, Jorge expected a one-sided beating.

Would It Happen?

“He knows with Nate Diaz, he got…whooped in the first one and in the second one (I thought) he lost as well. I can’t really stand much Nate Diaz, but you can’t take it from him. He beat Conor…rounds two-and-a-half and up, Round 3, 4, 5. He beat the [hell] out of Conor and this guy couldn’t do nothing to me. Even when (Nate) landed a punch on me, it was like a…mosquito bite for me. I walked right through that thing and gave him some heat and put him down,” Masvidal stated

McGregor is the A-side in any potential fight. The live gate for the Chandler fight set a new UFC record of over $20 million. The Notorious also has options in boxing, which can earn him big money. A fight with Manny Pacquiao has long been talked about. As long as McGregor does not need money, it is harder to see this fight happening.
