Malik Scott Says Wilder Will Fight Again – ‘He Still Has A Bright Future’
Malik Scott has shut down suggestions that Deontay Wilder will retire.
The Bronze Bomber is not in the best form at the moment. He has lost his last two fights, raising speculation that he could retire. He was on course to fight Anthony Joshua, having signed a two-fight deal. But that was contingent on Wilder beating Joseph Parker. But that all failed when he boxed Joseph Parker. Parker defeated Wilder in a one-sided unanimous decision.
Wilder’s right hand and jab were non-existent. After the fight, Wilder revealed he had found peace following his Ayahuasca usage. However, he continued to fight as he boxed Zhilei Zhang. Once again, Wilder looked out of sorts. He was knocked out in round five, as Wilder no longer looked the same fighter. However, Scott still sees Wilder as having a future.
Scott Reacts
“Zhang is a very big, dangerous southpaw. Deontay got caught with a shot that put him in an unbalanced position, and Zhang did his job. Deontay has the heart of a lion and is willing to go out on his shield in the ring. He’ll be back. Deontay will fight again.
“He still has a bright future in boxing, especially at the high level. Losses happen in boxing, even to the greatest fighters. Right now, he’s doing very well; recovering, enjoying life, and heavily involved in real estate and investing. He just had a great vacation with his kids. Life is good for him,” Scott stated
Fights with Joshua and Francis Ngannou are possible. A Joshua fight would require Wilder to get a few wins, given AJ is fighting for a world title. Joshua boxes Daniel Dubois on September 21 for the IBF Heavyweight Title. A win makes him a three-time heavyweight champion. It puts him in a position to fight for the Undisputed Heavyweight Title between the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk. That leaves Wilder further down the pecking order.
Wilder’s Options
A fight with Ngannou is more realistic. Ngannou has boxed twice against Joshua and Fury. He lost both bouts, getting knocked out by Joshua in his last boxing bout. He was in talks to face Wilder before boxing Fury. Reports indicated there were talks over a two-fight deal, one of which was an MMA fight and the other in a boxing bout. That never happened, but Ngannou’s prior comments suggest that he wants that fight. But that all depends on Ngannou beating Renan Ferreira on his PFL debut on October 19.
“Absolutely. I would love that fight. Pure boxing, don’t be delusional here. That’s where we both stand a chance. But if we go to MMA, only one man will stand a chance. It’s a fight that I want; I have always wanted the fight. At some point, we had a discussion that didn’t go too far. But we wanted to make this fight happen. I have the rematch with Fury and Deontay Wilder on the wish list,” Ngannou stated
