Lauren Price Targets Mayer And Shields Fights – ‘I Would Love To’

Lauren Price has accepted Mikaela Mayer’s challenge to face her next for the Undisputed Welterweight Title.
Price put herself in a great position to win all the belts after she defeated Natasha Jonas to unify at 147. The victory added the WBC and IBF titles to her WBA and Ring Magazine. Mayer successfully defended her WBO Welterweight Title by beating Sandy Ryan unanimously. It was the second time she had beaten Ryan consecutively after initially picking up the belt in the first fight. It is the biggest fight to be made out there, as Price puts her undefeated record on the line.
Price has significantly fewer fights in the pro ranks than Mayer, with only eight. However, she has developed a stellar amateur career and picked up an Olympic gold medal, making her one of the most accomplished fighters in the sport. Mayer is likely to be the B-side in negotiations since she only holds one title. In addition, she has also come out second best, having lost to Jonas. Mayer felt aggrieved by that decision, as she felt that she had done enough to beat Jonas.
However, the fact that she was fighting in the UK meant that the judges may have leaned towards Natasha. Price knows that a victory puts her down as one of the best female fighters in the sport. She also indicated a willingness to eventually face Claressa Shields, who called her out. Shields is a three-weight undisputed champion, having won all the belts at junior middleweight, middleweight and heavyweight.
Shields On Price
“It’s hard to put anything past Olympic champions. She won the Olympics 2021. I feel like when you’ve been all over the world and you’ve boxed and you’ve won world championships, it’s kind of destined for you to be great in the pros. I wish her the best of luck. She won the Olympics at 165lbs (75kgs) just as I did – two times – and if she ever wants to fight I would love to fight against her too. I believe anything is possible and I really want to fight anybody that wants to fight me. So if Lauren Price keeps winning and comes to 154lbs, 160, 168, we can fight and prove who’s the best Olympic champion.
“I want to fight everybody. We have some new blood on the scene. I’ve seen Lauren Price fight. I was like wow, pretty impressive. Pretty impressive. [154lbs] is the lowest I can get. If she wants to fight at 160lbs too, don’t be afraid to get a hamburger and come on up,” Shields said
That would be arguably one of the toughest tests for Price. However, the fight is unlikely, given the huge discrepancy in weight. It would take a lot for Shields to come back down, while Price is unlikely to jump numerous weight classes. Either way, the future looks bright for Price, as she was desperate to face Mayer.
“Definitely. My full focus is on 147lbs at the minute and becoming undisputed but definitely a fight down the line. I would love to share the ring with her, obviously Olympic champion as well. Double Olympic champion, I’m Olympic champion, it’s a great fight to make. Definitely,” Price
