Jaron Ennis Aims To Dominate Avanesyan - 'I'm Going To Beat Him Up'

Jaron Ennis is looking forward to putting on an impressive performance when he takes on David Avanesyan on Saturday.

Boots defends his IBF Welterweight Title for his homecoming fight from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ennis last fought in the city in 2018 when he stopped Raymond Serrano in the second round. Now, Boots returns to the city following his deal with Matchroom Boxing. The deal is seen as a way to expand Ennis’ profile. He has already been pictured with the Saudis, suggesting the possibility of fights in the Kingdom.

Ennis’ Aim

He is undefeated with a 31-0 record, which includes 28 knockouts. His last fight was a tenth-round stoppage win over Roiman Villa. As for Avanesyan, he has another shot at getting a world title. He came up short when he faced Terence Crawford in 2022, getting knocked out in the sixth round. Since then, he has won his last two fights, including a stoppage win over Serge Ambomo in his prior bout. This is the biggest test of his career. But a win over Boots gives Avanesyan a chance at targeting a unification, with a fight against Mario Barrios being possible. Ennis was looking forward to making a statement as the fight edges closer.

“It’s a very big deal. This is the first fight at the Wells Fargo Center. It’s a blessing to be able to fight at the Wells Fargo Center….Like I said I’m excited to be back in the ring. That’s my main thing, being back in the ring, putting on a show for my friends and family. Throwing in a big statement with a big knockout. I’m going in to have fun and put on a show. I really don’t care about what these other guys be doing,” Ennis said

Ennis’ Challenge

Ennis does have some uncertainty in this fight due to the change of opponent. He was meant to box Cody Crawley initially. However, Crowley pulled out with an eye issue that disrupted those plans. The boxer required surgery on his eye to rectify an issue. That left Ennis with an issue. He could delay the fight, meaning it prolongs his absence from the ring.

The other alternative was to take a replacement on the same date, which he did. Beating Avanesyan in style puts Ennis on the map for the bigger fights. He could stay at 147 or move up to 154 to try and get the Terence Crawford fight. He was meant to face Crawford at 147 since he was the IBF mandatory. But Crawford pursued the Spence rematch, meaning he was stripped. Ennis’ focus was on Avanesyan first.

“He kind of fights like my last opponent, like (Roiman) Villa. He’s just not as big. Puts pressure, that’s it. Right in front of you, don’t move his head. It’s gonna be a long night for him. I’m going in there to put on a show, have fun, be smart, take my time, beat him up, break him down and put on a beautiful show,” Ennis stated
