Haney Demands The Garcia Rematch - 'He Will Pay For What He Did'

Devin Haney wants to rematch Ryan Garcia after the latter’s suspension.

Garcia was banned for one year after testing positive for Ostarine. The ruling meant his win over Devin Haney was overturned. Haney lost a majority decision, getting dropped three times, only to see his undefeated 31-0 record reinstated. Since then, he has become a WBC Champion in Recess at 140 after failing to defend against his mandatory Sandor Martin. Haney indicated that he will take the rest of the year off as he plans his next move.

He could move up to 147 to take on Mario Barrios, the newly crowned WBC Champion. However, it appears Haney wants to set things right, giving him plenty of time to prepare for Garcia once he has analyzed the tape. He wanted to fight Garcia next, but that may be unlikely since it would be in April 2025 or at the earliest. But the rematch will be even bigger, allowing Haney to put things right after losing so much money due to the saga.

Haney On The Rematch

“Right now, my focus is on handling business at hand, and then I’ll return to the ring when the time is right…He will pay for what he did in and out of the ring. This whole situation has cost me money. I would love for my next fight to be against Ryan Garcia. If everything is right. That’s not feasible. I may return sooner, but the desire to face Garcia remains strong. That is the fight the world wants to see. Of course, I want to get mine back in blood, I am just that kind of fighter,” Haney said

Haney then went further, indicating he wanted a tougher punishment for Garcia. Ryan could have received a two-year ban. Amir Khan received that for having less Ostarine in his system compared to Garcia. Ryan’s additional punishments were paying Golden Boy Promotions $1.1 million, something Haney may get a percentage off.

Ryan was also required to pay a $10,000 state fine. Those sums are very low if we are to believe Ryan’s initial comments after beating Haney. He claimed he bet $2 million on himself, earning $12 million. Given the victory has now been erased, it does appear unjust in Haney’s eyes that Garcia’s time out of the sport will not suffer too much financial damage. The Dream indicated his desire for PED usage to have lifetime bans.

Haney Reacts

“I don’t think cheating should be in the sport of boxing. If I felt that, shit, I’d be cheating myself. If you get caught cheating, I think you should be banned. For life. Because we literally we go in and put our life on the line each time we step in that ring and we see guys get killed in the ring.

“He must have felt something, because of all his fights, he never tested dirty, right? But against me, he did. It’s no coincidence. He must obviously have felt the threat from me and all of a sudden he’s acting like we’ve never seen him acting before. He was covering….just in case he lost and he was going to play the crazy role,” Haney added
