Fury Announces Staggering Payout for Ngannou Fight

Tyson Fury has opened up on how much he made for the Francis Ngannou fight.

The Gypsy King received the highest payday of his career when he faced the former UFC heavyweight champion who was making his boxing debut. The risk appeared to be minimal, given that Fury’s WBC heavyweight title was not on the line. But rather than that being the case, the fight turned out to be more competitive than what was expected. Ngannou managed to drop Fury in the third round and continued to push the boxer on the back foot. And in doing so, the MMA fighter went the distance. Although Ngannou did lose out on the scorecards, some felt he had been deprived of a win. Regardless of the criticism that emerged for Fury, he did secure the win and get a massive payday as he outlined.

Fury’s Payday

“Tyson Fury has stated that he made “nearly £50 million” for the Francis Ngannou fight,” Michael Benson said

Much in the same way, Ngannou also pocketed a hefty sum given what he had been used to receiving in the UFC. The MMA fighter had reportedly turned down an $8 million offer from the UFC before his departure. This was on the grounds that the contract would have limited his freedom moving forward, given that he could not operate as an independent contractor. In addition, Ngannou was insistent on wanting to box as part of any deal, something which could not be resolved. In the aftermath, the fighter would end up signing a deal with the PFL, giving him the right to box. And following the Fury fight, Ngannou also picked up the biggest purse of his career reportedly worth $10 million.

Ngannou’s Payday

“Oh my God. By far [the highest payday]. By multiples. Just to make even while being champ, he would’ve had to fight multiple times [to be in this ballpark]…Let’s just say this: The bag is so big, he may actually just drop it on the way to the bank. This is life-changing. This is exactly what we planned and visualized, so we’re happy.” Ngannou’s representative Marquel Martin said

Despite this being the case, the focus will be on both fighters’ legacy moving forward. Fury faces the biggest fight of his career when he takes on Oleksandr Usyk on February 17th, 2024. Both fighters are currently undefeated, with one having the chance to become the first undisputed champion since 1999, when Lennox Lewis dethroned Evander Holyfield. And in doing so, the victor will cement his legacy as the best fighter of this era.

Meanwhile, Ngannou has put himself in the conversation for the biggest fights following his impressive performance against Fury. Fights with Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder have been mentioned moving forward. Not only that, but a super fight with Jon Jones has also been talked about if the PFL and the UFC can come together to put their differences aside to make the biggest fights out there. So, looking ahead, the future looks bright.
