Floyd Schofield’s Rise: Is He Ready For Tank And Shakur?

Floyd Schofield is coming off a win against Rene Tellez Giron as we examine his rise in the sport.

Schofield took his record to 18-0, with 12 knockouts to his name. Floyd is now ranked number two in the WBA rankings, putting him closer to a title shot against Gervonta Davis. He is also in the top 15 of the IBF rankings. He is currently promoted by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. The 22-year-old overcame various obstacles to make it in the sport. He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, before he moved to Austin, Texas. During this period, his father took custody of him when he was just two.

However, the family struggled for money as they became homeless. That meant Schofield entered the sport at a young age, only 8, in search of a better future. Floyd used Sugar Ray Robinson as a source of inspiration for his game. He racked up an impressive amateur career with a record of 180–20. He has now worked himself into a position to secure the big names later down the line. Shakur Stevenson has reacted to Schofield’s win, stating that he would be ‘food.’

Schofield vs. Shakur

Shakur is injured as he works his way back from a hand injury he sustained in sparring. He is targeting a fight against his WBC mandatory at 135 William Zepeda, with the aim of securing a Gervonta Davis fight later down the line. But if Davis does not face Shakur, then a fight against Schofield makes sense since he is second in the WBA rankings. Schofield hit the deck in the 11th round against Giron. Shakur saw plenty to suggest that he would be too much for him. Schofield, however, is eying Stevenson as he turned his attention towards him after the Giron win.

“Shakur is not Rene. He don’t have Rene’s power, he don’t have that dog in him. In my opinion that’ll be a one-sided fight, but we’ll see. When the time comes, I’ll back up what I’m saying,” Schofiled said

Schofield vs. Tank

Schofield may back himself since Shakur does not have the same power. His record stands at 18-0, with only 12 knockouts to his name. Shakur’s last stoppage was against Shuichiro Yoshino last year. However, there were suggestions that the fight was stopped too early. Tanks Davis has also reacted to Schofield’s win, urging the fighter to come and see him later down the line. Davis would be the big favorite since his record stands at 30-0 with 28 KOs. Davis will back himself to walk his man down. Schofield may struggle to get Davis’ respect. Tank was not impressed by what he had seen.

“I’m getting me a bite to eat and I’m hearing @KidAustin11 you getting ya ass kicked bruv..tell me it ain’t so. Hit me back asap..clear this up,” Davis stated
