Famous MMA Fighters: Profiles of Legends and Rising Stars
MMA is an exciting world with people fighting (literally!). Previously known as UFC, it gained popularity in 1993 with its first. Many people remember Jorge Masvidal, Conor McGregor, and Jon Jones; there are many other fighters who have made MMA what it is today.
Over the last 23 years, MMA has created a lot of sportsmen and fighters who have gained the title of legends. In fact, it continues to attract young and exceptional talent, known as rising stars. That’s the reason MMA has its own Hall of Fame, but not all deserve to have their names on the wall. So, if you would know some fighters who made their mark or are trying to do so, we are sharing the names with you!
The Legends Who Left A Mark
Ever since MMA’s inception in 1993, it has become the epitome of combat sports. While boxing has always been at the forefront of MMA, there are many other sports activities that have developed MMA. A great number of people fought in the octagon, which not only increased its promotional vale but fan influence as well. However, only a few of them gained the title of legends, and we have their names for you!
1. Georges St-Pierre
Georges St-Pierre, often referred to as “GSP,” is a legendary figure in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA). Born on May 19, 1981, in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, Canada, GSP is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in MMA history, boasting an impressive list of achievements and a storied career. GSP’s journey to greatness began when he made his professional MMA debut in 2002. He quickly rose through the ranks and made his UFC debut in January 2004. Over the years, he competed in the welterweight division and became known for his exceptional wrestling, striking, and a well-rounded skill set.
One of his most remarkable achievements came in 2006 when he won the UFC Welterweight Championship by defeating Matt Hughes. GSP’s reign as welterweight champion was characterized by dominance and a near-flawless record, as he successfully defended his title multiple times. However, what truly sets GSP apart is his ability to adapt and evolve. After a brief hiatus from the sport, he returned to capture the UFC Middleweight Championship in 2017, becoming one of the few fighters to hold titles in two weight classes.
Throughout his career, GSP faced and defeated some of the most formidable opponents in MMA, including Matt Hughes, B.J. Penn, Nick Diaz, and Michael Bisping, among others. His victories often showcased his technical brilliance, strategic prowess, and unwavering determination. Not only was GSP known for his in-cage achievements, but he also embodied sportsmanship and respect, earning the admiration of fans and fellow fighters alike. His impact on MMA extended beyond the octagon as he inspired a generation of athletes and helped popularize the sport in Canada. In December 2013, Georges St-Pierre vacated the UFC Welterweight Championship and announced an indefinite leave from MMA. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, his future in the sport remained uncertain. In addition to playing mixed martial arts, he has been studying on the side, but his degree hasn’t been disclosed. As far as the record is concerned, it’s 7-1-0, which means he has only lost one fight during his career up till now.
13. Chase Hooper
He is an American MMA professional and is playing in the lightweight division of the UFC. He started playing as an amateur MMA fighter while he was still in high school. During this time, he had a record of 5-0, which means he had four stoppage wins. As far as his professional debut is concerned, it was in 2017 when he fought a match against Edson Penado.
He won the debut match by using the rear-naked choke submission in the first round (how brave of him). That’s because he has also trained in BJJ and won the blue belt. His promotional debut in the UFC was against Daniel Teymur, and he won with a technical knockout.
14. Nick Maximov
He is an American-Russian MMA professional who has been fighting in the middleweight division and is playing under the banner of UFC. He started training at the age of 11, and he started with taekwondo and karate. However, later, he started training in jiu-jitsu. He used to wrestle when he was in high school and had quite a successful career.
His wrestling career in high school has 137 wins, but the losses were 37, so it’s great for a guy his age. He kept wrestling until college and changed his path. He made his professional MMA debut by defeating Nick Piecuch at the KOTC Terminal Velocity (in the first round, yikes!). However, he signed with the UFC in 2021 but made his debut in 2022 because the first fight in 2021 was cancelled due to medical issues with the opponent.
15. Rong Zhu
He is a Chinese MMA professional who has been playing in the lightweight division of the UFC. He started trying his hands on Sanda when he was only twelve years old. After training for three years, he still couldn’t achieve exceptional results. That’s when he decided to change paths and opted for MMA when he saw someone playing on the TV.
He was introduced to MMA by his uncle and started training at the Enbo Fight Club. Zhu was not only training there but worked as an assistant as well. He started playing professionally at the age of sixteen and made the 17-3 record, which helped him get a promotion at WLF. At WLF, he won the lightweight championship and actually defended it three times.
As far as UFC is concerned, he made his debut in 2021 but lost the fight due to a unanimous decision. After fighting and bagging a few wins, he was still released by the UFC back in 2022. After this, he appeared in UAE Warriors 34.

He is currently playing under the flag of Bellator MMA. Back in May 2023, he was named the top-tenth featherweight champion by the Bellator.
He started training in BJJ back in 2011. Since he is the son of Chris Brennan, his training started pretty easily. Lucas was studying at the College of Visual Arts & Design, but he gave up his career to focus on his MMA career. That’s when he signed the contract with Bellator at the age of nineteen, and in July 2019. He actually won the debut match against Thomas Lopez by leveraging the choke submission technique.
17. Kay Hansen
She is another American making her mark in the MMA world. She is currently fighting in the strawweight division and is signed with Invicta Fighting Championship. Before this, she was playing through UFC. In childhood, she used to play softball, but she shifted to MMA when she saw Ronda Rousey bag a win against Bethe Correla.
Kay Hansen got her training from Erik Paulson and started competing in the Pankration Youth Fights, where she made a record of 4-0. Two of these wins were armbars, one was a unanimous decision, and one was Americana. Her amateur debut was in 2017, and she won the match against Cecilia Padilla.
18. Christian Rodriguez
Informally known as CeeRod, he is a 24-year-old bantamweight champion who has been turning heads with his performance. He has a reach of 180cm, making him a great asset to whichever team he plays for. He is currently signed with UFC and has a record of 9-1-0. This means that he has nine wins and one loss, which is a pretty satisfactory performance.
However, his current winning streak is two wins, but his performance is exceptional, so it will improve in the future. In addition, he is playing out of Wisconsin right now, and his last match was in April 2023. As far as the affiliation is concerned, he is training at Roufusport MMA Academy.
19. Brady Hiestand
He is a professional MMA fighter, and his fans are used to calling him Bam-Bam. Hiestand is based in Washington and has been playing from there all his career (yes, we know it’s been short). He has an MMA record of 7-2-0, which means he has two losses and seven wins on his collar. His current winning streak is two, and the experts have good hopes for him.
He played the last match for UFC in April 2023, so it’s any day now that we will be able to see his magic in the ring. If you are concerned about the affiliation, it’s with Sikjitsu. He is playing in the bantamweight division, and his rank is 52nd (it will surely improve, it’s only the beginning).
20. Aviv Gozali
Known as The King, Aviv Gozali is a professional MMA fighter. He belongs to Bat Yam, Israel, and currently, he is the 299th lightweight MMA fighter (we do hope that his rank will improve). He played seven matches up till now and has six wins, and all of them were due to submissions, which shows how much strength this guy has. In addition, he has one loss, but that’s pretty fine.
21. Simeon Powell
His fans call him Smooth, and he has been showing the true colors of athleticism. He has been a part of the light heavyweight division, and he is truly the master of his field, with an MMA record of 8-0-0. He has eight wins, and the winning streak is 14, making him a professional. In fact, the winning streak shows how consistent his performance is.
He has won four fights through KO, three from submission and one from the decision of the jury. Jones had his last fight in March 2023 in PFL. He has been affiliated with the Great Britain Top Team, so it’s clear that his training has been good. He is actually based in Dublin and has been playing from there.
22. Iasmin Lucindo
We would like to close the list with another shining woman of the MMA world. Based in Brazil, she has been playing under UFC’s label, and her last match was in April 2023. She has been affiliated with Academia Fight House, and her intense training has helped her achieve the record of 14-5-0. This is a great average, as she has played 14 matches with five losses.
Her wins include four decisions, two submissions, and eight KOs. As far as the division is concerned, she plays in the flyweight division.
