White Dismisses Strickland's Ban Claim

Dana White has a simple answer to Sean Strickland's claim that he was banned from the White House — it did not happen.

Strickland alleged this week that UFC executives contacted him to inform him he was not welcome at UFC Freedom 250, suggesting the decision was connected to his public criticism of President Donald Trump's policies. The middleweight champion said he intended to stage a peaceful protest outside the venue. White addressed it at the first available opportunity and left little room for ambiguity.

"Everybody's banned, apparently. Of course, Sean Strickland isn't. Sean Strickland is banned from humanity, ok? We don't want him near any human beings anywhere. He made it very clear that he didn't want to be a part of this event. And now, apparently, he's banned? Nobody's banned," White said.

What is not in dispute is Strickland's current standing inside the UFC. He is the middleweight champion, having defended his title against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328 in May, a victory that came at a physical cost. Strickland is recovering from multiple injuries sustained in the fight.

Strickland has spent much of his time outside the cage generating controversy that has nothing to do with fighting. His commentary on politics, social issues, and the people around him has repeatedly put the UFC in the position of distancing itself from remarks without formally disciplining the man making them.

The timing here is notable. UFC Freedom 250 has been positioned as the organisation's most politically visible event — held on the White House lawn, with presidential proximity built into the spectacle. Strickland choosing this moment to claim he was excluded, and framing it around his opposition to the administration hosting the event, is exactly the kind of move that keeps his name in a news cycle he is otherwise absent from while injured.

The middleweight division will eventually need Strickland back in the cage regardless of how this week's back-and-forth settles. His title defence against Chimaev was compelling enough to confirm he belongs at the top.
