Eubank Jr. Is A Free Agent; Blasts Ex-Promoter

Chris Eubank Jr. has parted ways with Kalle Sauerland and Wasserman Boxing, leaving him a free agent.

Eubank Jr. has not boxed since stopping Liam Smith in their rematch in September 2023. It was the biggest win of Eubank’s career, with suggestions another loss would send him into retirement. The fight was also his first under his new trainer, Brian McIntyre. Bomac is known for being Terence Crawford’s trainer. Eubank’s next fight has been difficult to make.

The bout with Conor Benn is unlikely to happen. They had agreed a deal to fight at a catchweight of 157 pounds. However, Benn failed two VADA tests for Clomiphene. The boxer’s future is still uncertain, as he has not cleared himself to be able to fight in England. A Eubank-Benn fight would only sell in the UK given their big fanbase. Eubank had also been teased with a fight against Crawford. However, since Bomac trains both fighters, that is unlikely to happen.

“It’s fake news man. I don’t know who put that out there. Somebody said Eubank, he could be playing but we’ll stay in the gym and be ready for whatever. If that fight ever does come about we sit at the table and talk about it, you never know. I still talk to him. When I was in Vegas he still come by the gym. He was telling me he was waiting on a fight and once he has the date he’ll give me a call,” Bomac stated

Eubank Jr. Reacts

Eubank was also linked with a fight with Janibek Alimkhanuly, the WBO and IBF champion at 160. Chasing a world title would silence those doubters, but it was never agreed. There is also the chance of a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders. Saunders has spoken about having that rematch, provided it made sense financially. However, Saunders has not boxed since getting stopped by Canelo Alvarez in 2021. But with Eubank being left on the sidelines, he was happy to become a free agent.

“I’m a free agent again. Word of advice to any up-and-coming fighters. Get yourself a solid legal and management team; make sure you only work with promoters that align with your vision, goals, and dreams. These truths will set you free,” Eubank said

Eubank’s next steps are unclear. He could sign with Matchroom Boxing. A fight on offer would be the Benn one if those legal issues are resolved. There is an outside chance that Eubank also boxes Kell Brook. Brook has been linked with reversing his retirement, provided it is for a big fight. A domestic clash could be that.

Alternatively, Eubank could box Liam Smith in a rematch. Their record is 1-1, with Smith blaming the poor weight cut for his poor performance in the last fight. Smith also injured his ankle early on in the fight, giving Eubank the advantage. At 34, Eubank is in the latter stages of his career. He is clearly focused on getting the biggest fights. While he can still sell in the UK, it is vital he finds the right dancing partner.
