Dana White Will Promote The Canelo-Crawford Fight

Dana White and the Saudis will promote Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford in September. 

The news comes amid TKO Group Holdings Inc. launching their recent promotion to shake up the boxing industry. White is already on record saying he does not desire to work with the current boxing promoters such as Eddie Hearn and Oscar De La Hoya. This has created suggestions that White wants to make a mirror of the UFC, where fans get to see the best facing each other.

There may also be a strict pay structure in place, unlike the current standards in the boxing industry, where there is a massive disparity between what top-level fighters get and those lower down the pecking order. There have been some concerns, with suggestions that White may seek to repeal the Muhammad Ali Act, which is designed to protect fighters by allowing them to see the breakdown of a particular show.

Canelo vs. Crawford is expected to be the biggest fight of this year. Alvarez is coming off a unanimous decision win over William Scull, which made him the Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion for the second time. Meanwhile, Crawford has not boxed since beating Israil Madrimov last year to become the WBA Junior Middleweight Champion.

White’s Role

Crawford will move up to 168 pounds for this fight, as there are concerns over the difference in weight. While Canelo is the favorite, fans can expect a competitive match up since Crawford is one of the best P4P fighters out there. White and the Saudis will hope to showcase a terrific match-up to the world.
