Dana White Still Has No Clue On The UFC 300 Headline Event – ‘We’re Working On It’
Dana White has said the UFC is still working on its headline event for UFC 300.
The event takes place on April 13 in Las Vegas, and with two months to go, MMA fans are far from knowing the main event. Dricus du Plessis and Tom Aspinall appear unlikely to headline despite expressing their desire to do so. Du Plessis felt he would not be ready in time, while Aspinall has yet to have a response to a possible fight against two-division champion Alex Pereira.
“I think UFC 300 is obviously going to be a milestone event. I think it’s going to be great. Every time you have the UFC 100, UFC 200, and now 300, all of are massive events and the pay-per-views are insane, it’s a massive hype, and I would love to be part of that, but not if it’s going to mean that I’m not going to be fully recovered. Defending my title is much more important to me than being on this milestone event,” du Plessis said
“On my end, I’ve heard nothing so far. As I’ve said plenty of times before, I’m not one to turn down fights. I’m not particularly looking for that fight [against Alex Pereira], but if it’s available and they offer it to me, I will take it. I’m ready to fight,” Aspinall revealed
White On UFC 300
Jon Jones has also announced he rejected the chance to headline, stating he would not be ready in time. Despite the Irishman’s desire, White has also dismissed the possibility of Conor McGregor’s return on the card. But White has reassured fans that work is being done behind the scenes to prepare for the main event.
“Who knows who’s going to be the UFC 300 headliner. It’s been interesting, I can tell you that. Obviously, we want to deliver. I keep saying this: (Deiveson) Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt is literally the first fight of the night. So when you look at the card how it sits today, every single (fight) could be a main event on a Fight Night or a pay-per-view. We’re just waiting for that last one. We’ve got two more fights we have to put together. We’re working on it,” White stated
There is a danger that the UFC needs more time to build up the headline fight the longer the delay continues. But if it becomes a significant fight, it may not need the huge build-up that everyone expects. So the pressure is on White to deliver, with April fast approaching.
