Dana White Set To Unveil UFC 300 Main Event This Saturday
Dana White has confirmed that he will announce the UFC 300 headline event on Saturday.
MMA fans have been waiting for a significant amount of time, given that there are two months to go before the event starts on April 13. Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall and Dricus Du Plessis have been mentioned as possible names for the main event. Du Plessis and Jones have stated they are unlikely to appear due to injuries. Du Plessis suffered some knocks after beating Sean Strickland to win the UFC Middleweight Title.
“I think UFC 300 is obviously going to be a milestone event. I think it’s going to be great. Every time you have the UFC 100, UFC 200, and now 300, all of are massive events and the pay-per-views are insane, it’s a massive hype, and I would love to be part of that, but not if it’s going to mean that I’m not going to be fully recovered. Defending my title is much more important to me than being on this milestone event,” du Plessis said
The same can be said for Jones. The UFC Heavyweight Champion pulled out of his UFC 295 title defense against Stipe Miocic. Bones suffered a pectoral muscle injury in sparring, meaning he could not train. He underwent surgery, which was followed by further surgery on his elbow, keeping him out for a longer period.
Aspinall was linked with facing Alex Pereira, requiring the Brazilian to move up from light heavyweight. While that may have been the case, Aspinall admitted that he has not received confirmation from the UFC. That has excited MMA fans, but White’s position will become clearer soon.
White On UFC 300
“There are so many twists and turns, and crazy f***ing shit going on behind the scenes of UFC 300… Jon Jones is not involved. We have one more slot to fill mid-level, and then we have the main event… I know what I’m trying to do [for the main event], but what I’m trying to do and what’s gonna happen could end up being two completely different things. Unless I completely f***ing change everything. It’s fascinating. There could actually be a documentary right now being shot of behind the scenes to build UFC 300. That’s all I’m going to say,” White said
The forthcoming announcement has gotten MMA fans talking, given how long White has been teasing fans over the card.
