UFC announces Serbia debut with Belgrade card set for August 1
The UFC will hold its first event in Serbia on Aug. 1, the promotion announced Monday.
A venue has not been confirmed for the Belgrade card, which is expected to air as a Fight Night event. No headliner has been named, though welterweight Uros Medic and middleweight Dusko Todorovic are the promotion’s two Serbian fighters under contract and could slot onto the bill, according to MMA Fighting.
Medic called his shot after February knockout
Medic made a public push for the UFC to visit his home country after stopping Geoff Neal in the first round at UFC Houston in February. “Belgrade, Serbia. UFC this summer,” he said in his post-fight interview, per Sherdog. “I’m gonna knock him out — and a guy after him and a guy after him. I’m knocking everybody out.”
The 30-year-old has finished four of his last five Octagon appearances, all by first-round stoppage. Todorovic ended a three-fight skid with a first-round submission of Jose Medina at Noche UFC last September.
The Serbia card is part of a heavy international slate through August. Nine of the 13 UFC events announced through that month take place outside Las Vegas, including stops in China, Azerbaijan, and Perth, Australia this Saturday.
