Carlos Prates towers over Jack Della Maddalena in UFC Perth faceoff
Carlos Prates stood noticeably taller than Jack Della Maddalena when the welterweights came face-to-face Tuesday ahead of their UFC Perth headliner.
The matchup pits former champion Della Maddalena against surging contender Prates in a five-round main event Saturday at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia. According to MMA Mania, the UFC lists Della Maddalena at 5-foot-11 and Prates at 6-foot-1, a difference that showed clearly in video of their first staredown released by the promotion.
Both men return from November losses and wins
Della Maddalena lost his welterweight title to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322 last November, getting dominated in his first defense after claiming the strap with a Fight of the Year candidate decision over Belal Muhammad at UFC 315 in May 2025. Prates competed on the same card, brutally knocking out former champion Leon Edwards, per MMA Fighting. That finish followed a loss to Ian Machado Garry in a Kansas City headliner a year earlier.
Prates has gone 6-1 in the UFC, with back-to-back knockouts of Edwards and Geoff Neal giving him momentum. He opened as a slight betting favourite on the moneyline. Della Maddalena enters on the first octagon loss of his career.
