Crawford Over 180 Pounds, Sparks Canelo Fight Buzz!

Terence Crawford showed off his current weight as he prepares for his upcoming fight against Canelo Alvarez, raising many talking points.
Crawford will fight Canelo in September in Las Vegas at 168 pounds. Reports indicate there will not be any rehydration clause or any catchweight, meaning Crawford will jump up from 154 pounds. Canelo will fight William Scull in May to try and become undisputed once again. That means Crawford has the opportunity to make history by beating Canelo to become a three-weight undisputed champion. Jermell Charlo attempted to do what Crawford is doing by moving up from 154 to dethrone Canelo at 168.
He failed to offer any resistance as he lost a one-sided unanimous decision. There is a perception that the weight and power will simply prove too much. Crawford showed in his last fight against Israil Madrimov at 154 pounds that he could be hurt. Madrimov connected several times on Crawford, showing that he had slowed down somewhat. If Canelo were to land his punches in a similar fashion, there is a perception that he could stop Crawford.
But Crawford is pulling out all the stops to get himself ready. The following picture shows him on the scales at over 180 pounds. It is not clear what Crawford’s walk-around weight is, but it shows that he is already putting in the hard yards to become a fully fledged 168-pounder. It is vital that Crawford cuts the weight correctly, giving him an opportunity to get used to those additional pounds.
Crawford’s Weight

He will have to ensure that his speed is there whilst also having enough power in his punches to earn Canelo’s respect. Floyd Mayweather was able to outbox Canelo, who was much bigger than him when they entered the ring. But Canelo was far less experienced than before, while Crawford will face someone who is a four-weight world champion. Crawford’s team has previously said that they are not concerned about the weight discrepancy. His trainer, Brian McIntyre, expects Crawford to outbox the Mexican based on his IQ.
“Bud beats his ass. Outbox his ass, just outbox him. It [the weight difference] don’t matter – Bud been fighting big people all his life. Power? We know how to roll with punches…..we’ll take your power away from you. How do you take the power away from a power-puncher? I ain’t gonna tell you! Timing. [If the fight happens] it’d be an Errol Spence-Crawford II.
“I respect that [Canelo said he would gain nothing from the fight], because you get beat by the smaller man, now you gonna look like a [fool]. Hard boxing fans know that Bud could beat Canelo. He might be bigger, but he don’t got the height, he ain’t got the reach. He’s got a good boxing IQ, but he don’t have that crazy IQ that Terence has,” Bomac said
But fans have had a strong response to Crawford’s current weight, which has gotten a mixed reaction.
