Crawford Backed To Trouble Canelo, Dave Allen Picks Fury Over Usyk

In the latest boxing news, Terence Crawford’s former strength and conditioning coach, Jamie Belt, has addressed Bud’s chances of getting a win over Canelo Alvarez at 168.

Following Crawford’s win over Errol Spence Jr. to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era, Bud called out Canelo for a bout.

Crawford’s Challenge

That would require Crawford to jump up three weight classes in an attempt to become undisputed in a third-weight division. While Alvarez was initially open to the idea, the boxer has ruled out the fight following his win over Jermell Charlo.

The latter had jumped up two weight classes, however, the boxer failed to prove a threat at the weight class. Therefore, those same sentiments have been suggested once again with Crawford’s chances of success being diminished. And yet, Belt had a different view on the matter.

The former highlighted Crawford’s performance against Spence as a way of proving that he would pose problems for Canelo. Bud dominated in a one-sided fight to drop Spence three times before stopping him in round nine.

And as part of that process, Crawford outmuscled Spence in round two during a clinch which demonstrated the fighter’s strength. With that being said, Belt has given Crawford a good chance of a win.

Belt On Crawford

“I knew that was gonna happen. Bud is just that dude. I told Bruce Carrington, Bud is gonna knock him out before the 10th, and it ain’t gonna be pretty. I told him that a month before the fight. That guy is really on another level. He really is. I’m not saying Bud would walk through Canelo like he walked through Spence, but it’s gonna be very similar. That’s the God’s honest truth.

“I think Terence is way different. I’m not going to talk about Charlo. I don’t know what he does, how he trains, or who he trains with. I don’t know what he does when he’s not boxing. But I’ll tell you this much: when Bud’s not boxing, he’s still training. Bud lives in that weight room year-round,” Belt

Fury-Usyk

At the same time, Dave Allen has backed Tyson Fury to beat Oleksandr Usyk after having sparred them both. The pair have signed a deal to have an historic undisputed fight that will see boxing have the first once since 1999.

Although that may be the case, a fight date has still yet to be agreed. In addition, Fury has the task of getting past Francis Ngannou on October 28th, 2023.

But after having been in training with both of them, Allen picked Fury to get the better of Usyk. This was despite having been knocked out by Usyk in sparring, as Fury posed a different problem.

Allen Picks Fury

“When I sparred Usyk he knocked me unconscious. I never went over, I finished the round. But I can remember him hitting me. Next thing I knew I was stood outside the ring, packing my bag. I was concussed. I still think Fury wins, if it happens… I think Fury wins, but seeing is believing and I’ve not seen it yet. More-so Fury, I sparred Fury for seven years. I sparred Usyk and he was brilliant, but you know when he chinned me I hadn’t eaten for two weeks. That’s not an excuse, he boxed my head off, but Fury’s a level above I would say, in every aspect,” Allen said

Nevertheless, the fight does offer up an intriguing dynamic. Both fighters are undefeated and have an exceptionally high IQ. In addition, the contrast of styles will present a challenge for both fighters.

Fury has developed into a power puncher since working with SugarHill Steward. Meanwhile Usyk’s southpaw stance could pose problems, although his vulnerability was exposed against Daniel Dubois.

The Ukrainian was hit with a body shot in the fifth round, which was deemed a low blow. Although Usyk did stop Dubois in the later rounds, it did show that the unified champion was susceptible to the body.

With both of these potential bouts being so competitive, either fighter could arguably pull off a win on any other given day. And the more the sport of boxing has those type of fights, the better it is moving forward.
