Conor McGregor’s Alcohol Pulled From Irish Airports
Conor McGregor’s alcohol products have been removed from airports in Cork and Dublin.
The decision comes in the aftermath of the UFC fighter being ordered to pay Nikita Ni Lamhain roughly $258,440 after the latter filed a civil sexual lawsuit. The legal case alleged that McGregor sexually assaulted the claimant in 2018 at a Dublin hotel. The legal proceedings named James Lawrence. The jury cleared Lawrence of any wrongdoing. However, McGregor was held liable as he said he would appeal the decision.
“I should have shut the party down. I should never have stepped out on the woman I love the most in the world. That’s all on me. As much as I regret it, everything that happened that night was consensual and all the witnesses present swore to that under oath. I have instructed my legal team to appeal the decision,” McGregor stated
McGregor’s Case
Since then, he has suffered numerous consequences. The Notorious has been removed from the ‘Hitman: World of Assassination’ video game franchise. That was a major setback since McGregor talked up his role in the game, even hinting that he was planning to make his own video game. Those plans may now have to go on the back burner.
“In light of the recent court ruling regarding Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has made the decision to cease its collaboration with the athlete, effective immediately. We take this matter very seriously and cannot ignore its implications. Consequently, we will begin removing all content featuring Mr. McGregor from our storefronts starting today,” Hitman franchise
The Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey also did the same by pulling the plug on McGregor. The UFC fighter had a part to play in its launch in 2018. While he sold his stake, he was still used as a member to market it. McGregor would later use that influence to set up his Forge Irish Stout brand. And Proper No. 12’s exit was a big blow.
“Since 2021, Proximo Spirits has been the 100pc owner of Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey. Going forward, we do not plan to use Mr. McGregor’s name and likeness in the marketing of the brand,” Proximo Spirits said
McGregor’s Problems
Khabib Nurmagomedov even had his say, stating that he supported a crypto coin called ‘Convict McGregor’ ($CONVICT). The coin was set up to give the proceeds to those impacted by the fallout from the McGregor case. Now, the decision by the Cork and Dublin airports is another massive financial hit as Proper No. 12 Irish Whiskey and Forged Irish Stout will no longer be sold there.
“DAA can confirm that Proper No. Twelve whiskey was removed from sale in both Dublin and Cork airports over the weekend. We can confirm that none of the bars in Dublin or Cork airports sell either Proper No 12 or Forged Irish Stout,” Graeme McQueen (Media Relations Manager at daa, the operator of Dublin and Cork Airports)
Given that McGregor has not had a UFC fight since 2021 at UFC 264, the Irishman must keep his finances afloat outside of the octagon to take the pressure off fighting.
