Chisora Told To Retire, McGregor Outlines His Next Fight

Derek Chisora has been told by the boxing community to retire following his win over Gerald Washington

Chisora’s latest fight was part of the undercard for Anthony Joshua’s fight against Robert Helenius.

And from the opening bell, both fighters were looking to exchange. In the second round, Chisora hit the canvas, but the referee refused to call it a knockdown as the pace quickened.

A clash of head resulted in a cut for Chisora. Thereafter, blood began to pour from Chisora’s eye, as the right side had some bruising.

Although that was the case, the ringside doctor allowed the fighter to continue after the fight was stopped initially to give Chisora an examination.

As the fight went into the latter rounds, Chisora’s workrate decreased as he walked away with a unanimous-decision win: 98-93, 97-94 and 96-94.

And given that Chisora is 39-years-old, fans have called for the boxer to retire.

“Got to call it a day now, go out on a win.”

“I’ve loved watching Chisora, so many slug fests & entertaining scraps, but I think it’s time to hang them up.”

“I love Chisora but now in his 40’s when will they stop putting him in ring, hopefully before he’s hurt,” Teddy Atlas

While one man may be out of the door, Conor McGregor laid out his plans for the future.

The ‘Notorious’ had been in attendance at the Joshua-Helenius fight, as he confirmed that Michael Chandler would be his next opponent.

“December – [Michael] Chandler, I have to do it. I’ve just got to grab him by the chest [and smack him]. That’s what I’ve got to do. Chandler next in December and then [Justin] Gaethje, BMF and then we’ll do the Nate [Diaz] trilogy,” McGregor

Nevertheless, those comments need examination. McGregor has not entered the USADA testing pool which requires fighters to provide two negative samples over a six month period.

And given that McGregor has not done so, the only way to fight in 2023 would be to get an exemption.

The last time this happened was with Brock Lesnar. He did receive an exemption. However, since he later failed a test, this raised a lot of controversy.

That is why McGregor has a lot to think about moving forward. After all, the fighter’s last bout was all the way back in 2021.
