Carlos Adames Vs. Hamzah Sheeraz Result Sparks Controversy

Carlos Adames and Hamzah Sheeraz’s fight finished in a controversial split draw for many reasons, which has gotten boxing fans talking.

Sheerez was fighting for his first world title in a WBC Middleweight Championship clash. Adames arrived into the fight as the champion. Sheeraz began in a positive fashion by using his range to keep Adames on the outside. The plan was clear for Adames, who wanted to get on the inside and prevent his man from getting his shots off.

Sheeraz’s right hand found its target in the fourth round. However, things changed thereafter. Sheeraz later disclosed he picked up a hand injury as Adames took control. The champion was outworking Sheeraz. The statistics backed that up. The CompuBox numbers had Adames with 90 power shots compared to Sheeraz’s 48. But the fight was declared a split draw: 115-114 (Sheeraz), 118-110 (Adames) and 114-114.

Reaction

“At the start, it was complicated. He knows how to keep his distance and use his long arms with jabs. But after, I was able to get into his guard and penetrate. In the end, I think I won. It was a really complicated fight, but yeah, I think I won,” Carlos Adames

“I’m an overachiever. I’m very blessed but we’ll go back to the drawing board and fix those errors. No excuses, I’ve got a hand injury but that’s got nothing to do with the outcome of the fight,” Sheeraz said

“He broke his hand. He has a busted hand. [And] you could see in the fight something wasn’t quite right. I think that’s a fair reflection of the fight, to be quite honest. One of the judges, I don’t know where he was at with his scoring. I think he’s struggling at the weight in that fight.

“I was looking at him at the weigh-in. He may move up. I’m not sure about that. We’ll have a discussion about that. We could maybe get a rematch. We’ll wait and see what happens. He done well moving up against a good fighter. A lot of people didn’t fancy him. I think he gave a good account of himself, especially with a busted hand,” Frank Warren

Turki’s Contribution

But Turki Alalshikh came under fire during the fight. The Saudi boxing chief appeared to tell Sheeraz that he was behind on the scorecards. Boxing fans reacted with criticism, as it may have interfered in the fight. Sheeraz seemed to look at Alalshikh, confirming that he had heard something. Boxing fans had plenty to say.
