Mayra Bueno Silva has hit back at Julianna Pena following her reaction to the former’s positive test.

According to reports, Silva failed a test on August 21st, 2023, which was in the aftermath of her win over Holly Holm.

The substance in question was Ritalinic acid. This was from the medication, Concerta, that Silva was taking for her ADHD. As a result, Silva denied that her intention was to get an advantage over her opponent with this.

Silva’s Comments

“I want to begin by saying I have never in my life taken a substance to enhance my ability in or outside the cage. I have tested positive for a substance that is consistent with the prescription medication I take for my ADHD. I have been dealing with this disorder my entire life and it affects me in a multitude of ways,” Silva said

However, that did not stop Pena from lashing out as she dismissed any explanation that was being put forward.

“CHEAT-ara, living up to your nickname. Back to being a curtain jerker of an APEX card you go. You fought two 41 year olds this year and you had to cheat in order to get it done. Can’t pass a drug test? Keep my name out of your mouth, ya dumb broad,” Pena

Since then, the Brazilian expanded on how she had disclosed all of this to the UFC, USADA and any commissions that have staged her fights.

Therefore, the fighter was adamant that she had been open about the process. And since Silva does have a prescription for the usage, the fighter was hoping that the rules would be changed to deal with her issue.

Silva’s Defense

“I have ADHD, and I’ve been taking medication for a long time. I drink Concerta (Methylphenidate), the same (as) Ritalin. I always take this medication.

“I take this medication because my mind is very hyperactive. If I don’t take this medication, I won’t hear. I won’t stop (moving). It’s not good for training or fighting. It’s nothing. It doesn’t improve my performance.

“I think they need (to) change this thing because it’s very important for the people that have ADHD. I think this thing needs (to) change. If (I am an) example for this, OK, no problem, but I need this changed,” Silva

But in doing so, she also took the time out to respond to Pena’s words. After all, they had been course to fight at one point for Amanda Nunes’ vacant title once she retired. With that being said, this is what she had to say

“She talks too much. I promise I will smash Julianna,” Bueno Silva said. “I won’t go finish Julianna. I won’t knock out Julianna. I will smash Julianna for five rounds. Five rounds. She needs help because I will smash her,” Silva

Cormier On Weidman

Meanwhile, Daniel Cormier has praised Chris Weidman’s return to the octagon despite his recent defeat.

The MMA fighter marked his return to the cage on August 19th, 2023, after two years out of the ring at UFC 292.

It was the former middleweight champion’s first fight since he broke his leg against Uriah Hall. Thereafter, he returned to face Brad Tavares.

Despite putting on a brave performance, Cormier came out second best with a unanimous-decision loss. In response, Dana White called on the fighter to walk away from the sport.

And given that Weidman was bandaged up in the aftermath of his fight, he could have been forgiven for retiring.

Although that may have been the case, Weidman shut down those claims as he vowed to continue fighting. In response, this is what Cormier had to say.

“I know Chris, I’ve spoken to Chris post-fight. He is not happy to just have been there. He did accomplish a great thing by making that walk. Going through all the rehab and the ups and the downs with the injury, but he wanted to win that fight. He wanted to make a run, but I thought he fought like an absolute savage.

“He could have quit bro. When you’re out there hopping on one leg, which is a bad leg because you’ve been leg kicked so much, you can actually quit. He never quit. Chris Weidman is a savage,” Cormier

Ultimately, Silva and Weidman are at a crossroads when it comes to their career. And given that they have made such an impression in the sport, they will want to go out on their own terms. And there is no getting away from that.
