Brady Submits Edwards In A Dominant Display

Sean Brady secured a fourth-round submission win over Leon Edwards at UFC London to give the latter his second consecutive defeat.

The first two rounds were fairly even, with both men trading standing up. However, Brady got a takedown to end the first, as he shaded it. Brady knew that by getting Leon on the ground, he could use that to his advantage. This became the theme of the fight, as he secured a double-leg takedown immediately in round two. He followed up with ground-and-pound punches, taking control of the fight. Brady did the same in round four.

He got Edwards into a full body mount before securing the guillotine choke as Edwards tapped. The statistics showed that Brady was the dominant fighter. He secured five takedowns from seven attempts and out-striked Edwards by a huge 221-to-23. That was the first stoppage loss of Edwards’ career, raising serious questions marks over his next move.

Reaction

Meanwhile, Brady’s win was more impressive since he took the fight at short notice. JackDella Maddalena was meant to face Edwards first. However, he got given a title shot opportunity against Belal Muhammad at UFC 315. Brady was delighted with the result, as he was looking ahead to bigger and better things. He is now a serious contender for a title shot moving forward, he will want the Belal rematch.

“To be honest, I literally took this fight the day I got out of the hospital with my wife with our newborn baby. I knew this was a fight that I could do that in. I know I can do that against anybody in this division. [And] I just showed that against one of the most prestigious champions as of recently, so I think I belong in the top three, top one [of the UFC welterweight rankings]. I heard all week people saying I’m too small. I’m not small for welterweight, I was 190lb when they weighed me at the back. I’m just short and that’s alright,” Brady said
