Be Careful When Wagering on Mike Tyson V Jake Paul Fight
There will be plenty of opportunities to get down bets on the Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul card this weekend. Betting on the main event may be tricky, depending on where you are located. MMAfighting latest news shows that many legal sportsbooks in the United States aren’t taking action on the fight.
However, offshore sportsbooks and other shops around the world are taking action. Many have Jake Paul as a favorite against the 58-year-old Tyson. This is likely fair pricing, as Paul has been actively boxing over the past five years.Tyson fought one relatively recent exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. but has otherwise been inactive in competition for 23 years. So what does that mean? It means anyone looking to wager on this fight should do so carefully.
Tyson had to back out of this event a few months ago due to a health issue surrounding a stomach ulcer. There are also special rules for this fight. Both men will wear 14-ounce gloves, four ounces above professional heavyweight fights, compete in two-minute rounds, and see the fight go a maximum of eight rounds.
Paul has a lot more recent experience in competition. Tyson is obviously a former tremendous power who was a legendary knockout artist. But the Mike Tyson from 1984 ain’t walking through that door.If you bet on this fight, keep it small. I think Paul will win, but I wouldn’t want to be on the wrong side of betting against Tyson. People love the idea of seeing Tyson fight again, but this isn’t the same man who once ruled the world.
Bets to consider: Paul by decision, over 7.5 rounds
Taylor Regained Mojo Before Rematch
Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano have the opportunity to steal the show on this card. Their first fight back in April 2022 was an instant classic. Following an immense amount of media for the fight, Taylor and Serrano delivered a masterpiece.
Serrano rocked Taylor in the fifth round, but Taylor would stay on her feet and rally to win a controversial split decision to retain her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring female lightweight titles. During the time since their first fight, Taylor suffered the first loss in her career.
Taylor lost a majority decision to Chantelle Cameron in May 2023. She was able to have a rematch six months later and win the belts back by majority decision. Since the loss to Taylor, Serrano, who is 47-2-1 in her career, has gone back to work on defending her featherweight titles. Serrano and Taylor were supposed to fight a few months ago, but Taylor pulled out, forcing Serrano to fight a replacement opponent. Serrano scored a second-round knockout against Stevie Morgan, who was overmatched.
During the first fight, Serrano landed more punches, but Taylor landed them at a higher clip. This fight will likely be close. Serrano is even money, while Taylor is a slight favorite. This will be a close fight, I’m planning to back Serrano at even money or better.
Serrano was close during the first fight and has produced consistent success since. Taylor has looked a little sluggish in recent outings, so backing Serrano at plus money is a good opportunity.
Bets to consider: Serrano ML, fight to go the distance
Barrios is Back on the Right Path
Mario Barrios was in a dangerous spot for his career. Following a loss to Keith Thurman in February 2022, online boxing news shows Barrios has taken consecutive losses to difficult opponents and needed to evaluate where his career could go.
What Barrios was able to do was reset his career in the welterweight division. He picked up a knockout win in a regional title fight in February 2023. Barrios has won three consecutive fights and grabbed the WBC welterweight title.
Barrios will want to make a big impression against Abel Ramos. Ramos has faced a rough road over the past few years. He has lost three of his past five fights. While Ramos has picked up knockouts in his past two victories, he will need to make a big leap to topple Barrios.
This fight will see Barrios with multiple paths to victory. Ramos has struggled to maintain consistency over the past several years. Don’t expect Ramos to figure things out now.
Bets to consider: Barrios by KO/TKO/DQ +160, Fight to not going the distance
Green Wants to Claim Vacant Belt
Shadasia Green challenged for the WBO World Super Middle belt once before. In December 2023, Green took her first career loss by decision to Franchón Crews-Dezurn. Since then, Green got back on her feet by picking up a decision win over Natasha Spence in July.
Green, 35, will have the challenge of trying to beat Melinda Watpool. Watpool also had a decision win over Spence to her credit. Watpool doesn’t have nearly as much boxing experience as Green does. She has only fought seven times professionally.
The top-ranked Canadian fighter should be ready for a difficult back-and-forth fight. With a belt on the line, both of these fighters will be motivated to try and fight their best.
Bets to consider: Green ML, Fights to go the distance
Here’s a look at the rest of the fights on this card not mentioned above:

Super lightweight, Lucas Bahdi vs. Armando Casamonica
