Badou Jack Still Has Hopes For Wilder Vs. AJ - 'It's Not Dead'

Badou Jack still wants to see Deontay Wilder taking on Anthony Joshua even following the Bronze Bomber’s loss to Joseph Parker

Wilder suffered a one-sided loss on ‘The Day of Reckoning’ Saudi card as he lost a unanimous decision. The performance showed that Wilder could not release his right hand, and even his jab had deserted him. The boxer was out of the ring for over a year since his first-round knockout of Robert Helenius.

Before that, Wilder was stopped in two gruelling fights against Tyson Fury. At the age of 38, father time may be catching up with Wilder. Eddie Hearn confirmed that Wilder and Joshua had signed a two-fight deal provided both men won their fights. Wilder failed to come through Parker, but Joshua stopped Otto Wallin after round five. The fight appears dead in the water, but Jack is still open to seeing the Joshua fight.

Jack On Wilder

“Not really, but Parker is a former world champion. He’s not an easy fight for no one. I still want to see it. Why not? I don’t think it’s dead, but it’s not as hot as it was before the fight. This is boxing, you win and you lose sometimes,” Jack said

And yet, there is no guarantee that Wilder will come back. Joshua aims to fight Filip Hrgovic, likely for the IBF title following Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s fight. The winner will be stripped if they don’t fight Hrgovic. Since they have a rematch, that is likely. Wilder could rebuild himself against the other big names, such as Daniel Dubois or Zhilei Zhang, but another defeat would further damage his career.

Following his loss, Wilder was criticised for offering up excuses. With the Fury losses, Wilder accused the Gypsy King of tampering with his gloves. He also blamed his costume as being a reason why he felt weak. That has created the narrative that Wilder is no longer the same fighter after the Fury defeats. After all, the boxer claimed Joshua was happy with his loss since he didn’t have to fight him. But Joshua had signed the contracts, making his following comments out of place.

Wilder On Joshua

“They really don’t want that fight. When I lost, did you see how happy he was coming out? I broke out laughing, I said, ‘That guy is happy,’ I made him able to perform like that. He was like, ‘I ain’t got to fight Wilder.’ The rumor was he was talking about retiring if I won. March 9th, the fight still can go on. But this is a perfect way for them to get out. I’m so heartbroken about my performance because I know it was lackluster. We had a hell of a training camp. I felt so amazing. I don’t know what happened,” Wilder said

Wilder will likely take some time off, but inactivity is what damaged his career. He must deliver inside the ring if he desires to become world champion again. ‘Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
