Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey has begun her camp for the Gina Carano fight, set for May 16.

Rousey is ending a nearly ten-year hiatus to headline Netflix’s inaugural MMA fight , marking her first appearance in the cage since her 2016 loss to Amanda Nunes. Across from her, the 43-year-old Carano is making a comeback of her own; She has been away from professional competition for 17 years, last seen in a 2009 Strikeforce title defeat to Cris Cyborg that ended her undefeated 7-0 streak.

Recent footage of Rousey’s training shows her focusing on her stand-up game. This addresses the defensive and technical striking flaws that led to her back-to-back knockout losses against Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. In the clips, Rousey appears sharp, showcasing rapid-fire pad work.

While Rousey is putting in the work, Carano is also ready to make her mark on the fight. Her head coach, John Wood, had this to say.

Carano’s Coach

“For me, we go out there to win fights. Our goal at Syndicate, our goal for every fighter should be we’re going out here to win this fight. We’re not going out here to just show up and look like dogshit. If it was a money thing, it was this or that, it doesn’t matter. The end game is still the same.

“I can tell you this, she’s fired up. We’re firing on all cylinders already. She’s coming out there to win that fight. There is no intention of just showing up. Showing up’s not good enough. Showing up for me isn’t even acceptable. We’re going out there to win the fight. We’ve got a great team and coaches around us that we’re going to put the best Gina Carano that you’ve seen, especially in a long time. I think she’s going to go out there and do amazing things,” Wood said
