Zepeda Beats Gesta In Six Rounds, Calls Out Haney And Tank Davis

William Zepeda has called out Devin Haney in the aftermath of his win over Mercito Gesta on Mexican Independence Day.

Zepeda was in impressive form after having managed to stop Gesta in just six rounds. The former was on the offensive right from the off as he managed to total an incredible 618 punches by the time of the stoppage.

His opponent had no answer for the constant barrage that was coming his way. And it showed in the sixth round as the referee stopped the fight following numerous combinations from Zepeda as Gesta failed to fire back.

As a result, the 35-year-old, Gesta was forced to stay on the ropes for most of the time, which did not help his cause. And now Zepeda is targeting a world title by calling out Haney.

The latter is the current undisputed lightweight champion, although he has been stripped of the WBC 135 pound belt since moving up to 140 pounds.

But given that Haney is targeting a fight against Regis Prograis for his WBC belt, the chances of the ‘Dream’ moving back down to lightweight are unlikely. And yet, Zepeda is targeting that mega fight against Haney.

Zepeda Wants Haney

“I am ready for Devin Haney. Thank you for Gesta and Golden Boy. I wanted an experienced fighter, and he gave that to me; I’m going to keep going on my way to be a champion,” Zepeda said

Nevertheless, Zepeda would do nothing for Haney’s legacy moving forward. He does not currently possess a belt, nor is he a big pay-per-view star in the United States.

Nevertheless, he is an undefeated fighter like Haney as his current record stands at 29-0, with 25 of his wins by way of knockout.

Therefore, a win over Zepeda would be a big scalp even if there is no belt on the line. However, Haney has worked himself into a position where he can choose the biggest fights. And there is no getting away from that.

Zepeda Targets Davis

Much in the same way, Zepeda was adamant that a fight with Gervonta Davis would follow later down the line. Davis is currently preparing to make his comeback following his release from prison for violating the terms of his house arrest.

This was in relation to a hit-and-run incident that required Davis to remain at his coach, Calvin Ford’s house. However, the boxer ended up staying elsewhere without informing the authorities.

Therefore, the boxer spent the remainder of his house arrest behind bars. But now that he is out, Davis is not expected to face a big name straight away, which is understandable. Therefore, Zepeda could become an option moving forward.

“That’s [Davis] not only a good fight but that’s an excellent fight. It’s a great opportunity for me to be able to prove why I’m here. I have to watch out for his power and he has to watch out for the excessive amount of punches I throw,” Zepeda stated
