Usyk Has Mentally Broken Fury - 'Usyk Will Win By Stoppage

Tyson Fury is no longer the same fighter following his loss to Oleksandr Usyk

That is according to Hasim Rahman. Fury lost the first fight via a split decision as Usyk became the first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion since Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield in 1999. Fury was almost stopped in the ninth round, as Usyk had him bouncing off the ropes before the referee imposed a standing eight count.

The Ukrainian was the better fighter for most of the fight, dominating the earlier rounds. Fury then fought his way back into the middle rounds as the momentum shifted. However, Usyk pressed ahead in the back end of the fight as he came out victorious.

Fury refused to accept defeat in his post-fight comments, stating that Usyk was given the win because of Russia’s war with Ukraine. He kept the same mindset after having rewatched the fight, calling Usyk an amateur boxer. Since then, he has vowed to knock out Usyk, stating that he will do what he did against Deontay Wilder in the second fight.

And yet, The Gypsy King was spotted getting drunk and thrown out of a nightclub in Morecambe following the defeat. Fury’s supporters downplayed suggestions that there were problems with his mental health, as he released a video showing himself back in the gym. Fury has never suffered a loss as he enters into new territory. Another defeat could lead to calls for him to retire, especially since he has secured his financial future.

Fury’s Mentality

His brother, Shane Fury, has already stated that he wants Fury to walk away from the sport regardless of the Usyk result. But prior to the Usyk fight, Fury even hinted that he could have up to 10 more bouts. There is still the lucrative Anthony Joshua fight on the table, while the rise of Daniel Dubois also offers another opportunity.

But Fury has been through many wars. The three Wilder fights took a lot out of him, with the Gypsy King admitting that he felt he had brain damage. Fury also suffered a lot of punishment in the Usyk fight, as it was clear he was suffering from concussion. In his post-fight comments, he wished everybody a Happy New Year despite it only being May. Rahman felt that Fury was not the same fighter, as there was a difference in his mindset.

Rahman Reacts

“I think Deontay Wilder got a big play in this Usyk and Tyson Fury rematch. I believe Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury took everything out of each other. I think they’re both shells of their former selves, and I believe Usyk will win this rematch by stoppage. I know he knows he can drop him and hurt him, and now I think the confidence is there.

“I think he’s going to win by stoppage. I think he should fight the winner of the Joshua-Dubois rematch and then call it quits. The man did everything you can do in boxing. He’s pound-for-pound one of the greatest champions ever. He’s a gold medalist, undisputed cruiserweight, undisputed heavyweight. What else can you do? He’s done it all,” Rahman said
