Fans Predict Tatsuro Taira Vs. Hyun Sung Park

The UFC returns this Saturday night with a compelling flyweight main event that pits Japan’s prospect Tatsuro Taira against South Korea’s unbeaten Hyun Sung Park

Taira (16-1) has been methodically climbing the flyweight ladder in recent times. Many viewed that the Amir Albazi matchup as his breakout opportunity into the top 5. Now though, Taira is facing a very short notice replacement who is undefeated and unranked.

Park (10-0) steps into the spotlight on just a few days’ notice. The undefeated South Korean is jumping from fringe prospect to facing a top-10 fighter and elite grappler in Taira, it’s a tough matchup, especially without a full camp.

Park has shown capable grappling early in his UFC career, as seen in his win over Hernandez, but he’s never faced someone with Taira’s level of dominance on the ground. The Japanese native is patient and rarely makes mistakes on the mat. He already has two submission wins in the UFC to go with his two knockouts.

Park has the cleaner boxing and more natural power on the feet. He sets traps, uses smart shot selection, and isn’t afraid to throw power combinations. But Taira is no slouch standing up, his defence is sound, and he uses striking primarily to set up takedowns.

Taira has had a full camp and was preparing for a high-level opponent. Park has taken this fight with virtually no preparation time, and while he’s always in shape, replicating Taira’s grappling in just a few days is an impossible task.

Taira vs Park: Prediction & Betting Tips

Conditioning and game plan all tilt towards the Japanese contender. Plus, he has a clear path to victory; his control on the ground, transitions, and submission setups are among the very best in the division.

Hyun Sung Park is a talented, promising fighter, but this is too much, too soon, and under the wrong conditions for the Korean. Taira is simply too polished and too dangerous on the mat. If Park had undergone a full training camp to prepare for someone like Taira then maybe this would be a competitive fight, but he’s taken this fight on just over 72 hours notice.

Taira can further cement himself as a future title challenger on Saturday night with a relatively routine victory inside the distance. Take Tatsuro Taira to win by KO/TKO or submission at odds of 1.91 (Sky Bet).
