Jake Paul Still Chasing Canelo
Jake Paul has gone public with a $200 million offer for a fight against Canelo Alvarez, claiming the Mexican champion sounded receptive during a recent phone call.
Paul and Canelo were linked to negotiations in 2025 before talks collapsed in the early part of the year, with Canelo subsequently signing a deal with the Saudis. Paul is now attempting to revive a fight that, if it happened, would be one of the most commercially significant boxing events in recent memory.
The obstacles are considerable. Canelo is expected to return in September against WBC middleweight/" class="internal-link text-bone underline decoration-ash/30 hover:decoration-gold underline-offset-2">super middleweight champion Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, a fight that is already taking shape as his next meaningful contest. Unless those plans change, there is no obvious window for a Paul fight in the near term. The Saudi relationship Canelo has built also complicates any negotiations.
Will It Happen?
Paul's own situation deserves mention. He is currently recovering from a broken jaw suffered during his knockout loss to Anthony Joshua in December 2025, with his return to boxing contingent on medical clearance. A $200 million public offer is a bold move for a fighter who has not yet confirmed he will be able to fight again at all. However, Jake is optimistic.
"Canelo, I have the $200 million for you, easy money. Jake vs. Canelo, let's get it done. This is what the fans have been waiting for. This is the biggest fight that could possibly be made in boxing. Canelo said he's down on the phone. So, we're going to make it happen. Sign the contract, Canelo. Much respect to you. Let's make the biggest fight in boxing happen,” Jake said
