Teofimo Lopez Wants To Test Himself Against Terence Crawford

Teofimo Lopez is desperate to face Terence Crawford to show he is the best.

Crawford is the world’s pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet following his recent win over Errol Spence Jr. He solidified his status as a boxing great, stopping Spence to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. The rematch looks unlikely to go ahead as Crawford distanced himself after Spence’s vision was hampered in the fight, blaming that for why he was hit repeatedly.

That has left questions over where Crawford goes next for his fight. He could vacate and move up to 154 pounds to face Tim Tszyu. That would put him in a position to fight for the WBO Title at 154 pounds and begin his journey of becoming a three-weight undisputed champion. If that does not happen, Lopez was ready to step in.

Lopez On Crawford

“I want my flowers now, and the only way I can do that is by beating Terence Crawford now and getting that respect. “This is the Terence Crawford era, then that’s the guy. I give him his flowers. However, I’m a fighter as well, and I know I’m the best, and he says he’s the best. So we’re not too far away in weight class, and we can make that happen. They’re trying to block my vision of getting to Crawford because they don’t want me to do it,” Lopez said

Lopez deserves a mention amongst some of the best when we look at his boxing resume. The Takeover is a two-weight and two-time lineal champion. He has big wins over Vasiliy Lomachenko and Josh Taylor. He beat Loma when the Ukrainian was in his prime, while he gave Taylor his first-ever career loss. However, the loss to George Kambosos Jr. negatively impacted a promising career up until then. But a win over Crawford would erase that.

But for now, Lopez must overcome his current opponent, Jamaine Ortiz, who is set to fight on February 8, 2024. Even with that win, there are big fights against Devin Haney or Subriel Matias at 140. Haney is undefeated and the current WBC Junior Welterweight Champion, a belt he acquired by dominating Regis Prograis. Matias has a 100 percent KO rate in his 20 wins, with only one loss on his record. That is plenty to keep Lopez occupied with at 140. In response, Crawford distanced himself from Lopez.

Crawford Reacts

“Teofimo Lopez, your ****** *** better worry about them little guys that’s on yo ass down there in yo weight class. Hey Teofimo Lopez, naw real ****, good luck in yo fight. Focus on him because he can fight and I don’t want you to look bad worrying about me when you got other problems on yo hands,” Crawford stated

The only thing Lopez can continue to do is win and put himself in a position for the biggest fights that are out there. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com.
