Sunny Edwards And Galal Yafai Face Off In Final Presser

Sunny Edwards and Galal Yafai held their final pre-fight presser before their WBC Interim Flyweight Title clash on Saturday.
Edwards arrives into the fight as the massive favorite. He is the former WBC Flyweight Champion, a title he lost after getting stopped by the-then WBA Champion Jesse Rodriguez. That was Sunny’s first-ever loss. But he bounced back with a win over Adrian Curiel in his previous bout to win the WBC Interim Flyweight Title. That took his record to 21-1. Edwards has considerably more professional experience than Yafai despite being younger at 28 compared to his 31-year-old opponent.
Edwards also has a victory over Yafai in the amateurs. As for Yafai, he is undefeated with an 8-0 record. He is an Olympic Gold medalist, showing his amateur pedigree. He has boxed twice this year, winning against Agustin Gauto and Sergio Oliva. The winner will put themselves in a position to face the WBC Flyweight Champion Angel Ayala.
Expectations
“For the last seven or eight years of my professional career, it’s been disappointing that there hasn’t really been another British name. I’ve not had the domestic nights, really. “It’s much easier to get more excited about a Brit versus a Brit. A former world champion and former Olympic gold medallist. I have to be fit, I have to be sharp, I have to be ready,” Edwards stated
“I’m normally in fights that, to be quite frank, no-one gives a [dam] [about]. When I’m fighting foreigners, and in America, I’m on these cards where no-one really watches. With someone like Sunny, there’s history. He’s beaten me in the amateur [careers]. We’ve sparred a lot. We’ll put the record straight when we fight on November 30,” Yafai said
Presser
“I think I am better, but he thinks he’s better than me, and that’s why we’re here, to find out. That’s what makes it so exciting. You can see the respect between us in the build-up, we both speak confidently but say how good the other guy is as we’ve spent so many rounds with each other and we both know that when we get in there, anything can happen, we’re both that good.
“It’s about who makes the right moves, the right steps, who doesn’t fall into traps, walk onto the wrong shots, it’s elite boxing. Yes, I can hurt him, but you have to land the shot and I know that Galal is very tough, he’s got a lot of heart and ambition, and like he said, this fight is bigger and means more for him than winning the gold medal,” Edwards said
Yafai’s Comments
“It’s a massive fight, it speaks for itself. Sunny is a great fighter, a former World champion, a good name and we’ve got history as well which gives a bit more needle in it. It’s great that it’s in Birmingham as well, and I’m looking to put a good performance in on Saturday…It’s got people interested and it’s not what I am used to.
“I’ve been going to America and fighting unknown Mexicans, so fighting someone that everyone rates, everyone knows, and we’ll see who the better man is on Saturday. I wish I knew how it was going to play out, I’ve been asked that so many times. If I knew what was going to happen, I probably wouldn’t have trained so hard. You’ll have to tune in and watch. I just do what I normally do. I’ve got to be a bit smarter, but I know Sunny inside-out, I know what he does and like he said, you just need to tune in,” Yafai stated
