Spence To Return To Face Tszyu

Errol Spence Jr. is reportedly close to returning to the ring to face Tim Tszyu.

Spence, the former unified welterweight champion, has remained on the sidelines since his July 2023 stoppage loss to Terence Crawford. That was the first loss of his career, as he missed out on becoming the undisputed welterweight champion. Since then, Spence has parted ways with his trainer Derrick James.

Spence also underwent cataract surgery on his right eye, as there were doubts over whether he would return. Despite rumors linking “The Truth” to names like Sebastian Fundora and Jermell Charlo over the last few years, no deals reached the finish line. Spence also claimed that Charlo only wanted that fight for money.

“I mean, Canelo gone, Terence gone, so who else he gonna get a big payday from? That’s the only reason he called me out, because everybody know how the sparring went. His coach know how the sparring went, everybody in the gym know how the sparring went. Hey, man, he wants some money,” Spence said

Tszyu’s Form

Tszyu enjoyed a dominant 2023, capturing the WBO junior middleweight title with wins over Tony Harrison and Brian Mendoza. However, Tszyu’s momentum stalled after a loss to Fundora and a subsequent stoppage defeat to IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev, followed by a loss in a Fundora rematch.

Having since revamped his coaching staff, Tszyu recently regained his momentum with a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Velazquez last December. Tszyu plans to stay active with a tune-up fight in the coming months before shifting his focus to a massive summer showdown against Spence.
