Security Separate Nick Ball And TJ Doheny

Nick Ball and TJ Doheny had a controversial weigh-in ahead of their March 15 WBA Featherweight Title.

Ball puts his belt on the line for the first time. He is undefeated with a 21-0 record. His previous bout was against  Ronny Rios last October, as he knocked him out via a tenth-round stoppage. Ball knows a win puts him in a better position to face Naoya Inoue, who is expected to move up to featherweight at some point. Doheny enters the fight with a loss against Inoue.

The latter knocked him out as Doheny moved up to featherweight. However, Doheny has more experience than Ball, as questions remain over whether the 38-year-old can cause an upset. Ball made weight at 125.56 pounds, while Doheny missed it, coming in at 126.06 pounds. The latter was given an hour to make weight, as he came in at the dot at 126 pounds. However, the two fighters were involved in pushing each other, as security had to separate them.

Pre-Fight

“I’m always looking to do a better job, put a statement performance on. Especially in Liverpool. I don’t care what [Doheny] has done, who has been in with him, what he done in his last fight, it’s all irrelevant.” “Do what I do best. Get in there and be the best version of me and that will be enough,” Ball stated

“I’ve done it every time, win or lose, I’ve fucking put in way better fights than some thought I would, Even when I lost to [Naoya] Inoue, everybody was like, ‘Oh, two rounds, he’s done.’ You see the respect that Inoue showed me the whole way up until round six, when he started to turn the heat up? He knew he couldn’t make any mistakes, and that’s why he’s a pound-for-pound great.

“He was very cautious, and there was a game of inches in there and, unfortunately, he was just that little bit too sharp. And it’s no shame losing to a fighter like that, even in the fashion I did. It’s going to be a big realisation early on in this fight that you can’t just walk through the door with me. We’re not going looking for the knockout because I’m probably the silkiest box he’s been in against, and I’ve got the skills to deal with a shorter pressure fighter but if he wants to get reckless, it could be a bad move with him because I might walk him onto something,” Doheny said
