Biography

Professional Career

He began his professional journey with a series of impressive wins, quickly gaining recognition for his knockout power and technical prowess. His early career saw him dominate the regional circuit in Australia, capturing the PABA super-bantamweight title and defending it multiple times with a string of stoppage victories, including a notable win over James Mokoginta in 2013.

Doheny’s career took a major leap forward when he claimed the IBF super-bantamweight title on August 16, 2018, with a unanimous decision victory over Ryosuke Iwasa at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. He successfully defended his title against Ryohei Takahashi in January 2019 in New York, showcasing his skill and resilience. However, his momentum was halted in April 2019 when he faced Daniel Roman in a unification bout for the IBF and WBA (Super) super-bantamweight titles. Despite a valiant effort, Doheny lost a close majority decision, marking his first professional defeat.

Following the loss to Roman, Doheny faced a series of ups and downs. He bounced back with a fifth-round stoppage win over Jesus Martinez in October 2019 but suffered another setback in March 2020, losing to Ionuț Băluță by unanimous decision. A high-profile bout against Michael Conlan in August 2021 saw Doheny challenging for the vacant WBA interim featherweight title, but he came up short, losing by unanimous decision.

Undeterred, Doheny returned to form with a second-round TKO victory over Cesar Juarez in Dubai in March 2022. He continued his resurgence by capturing the WBO Asia Pacific super-bantamweight title with a fourth-round TKO win over Kazuki Nakajima in June 2023. Doheny successfully defended his title against Japhethlee Llamido in October 2023, scoring a first-round TKO. His most recent victory came in May 2024, when he stopped Bryl Bayogos in the fourth round at the Tokyo Dome,
