Ronda Rousey Writing The Script For Her Netflix Biopic

Ronda Rousey will write her Netflix biopic based on her autobiography, ‘Our Fight.’

The 37-year-old is officially retired from combat sports and turning her attention to her biopic. Her autobiography focuses on her poor form before leaving the UFC, her history with concussions, and her difficult time in WWE.

Rousey has been vocal against the former WWE CEO Vince McMahon. Vince is currently under a federal investigation for sex trafficking. Janel Grant, a former WWE employee, alleged that Vince offered her work in return for sex. In her lawsuit, she alleges McMahon had trafficked her to other men. Vince resigned from the TKO Group Holdings Inc. board, vowing to prove his innocence.

Rousey On McMahon

“Out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effective immediately,” McMahon said

There have been numerous sexual misconduct claims made against McMahon. Rita Chatterton, the WWE’s first-ever female referee, alleged Vince had raped her. McMahon settled this out of court. Rousey was in the WWE, having joined in 2018. She left a year later before returning in 2022. In her memoir, she was very critical of Vince.

“It’s hard sometimes to know where the evil, unethical, slimeball character of Vince McMahon played out for the camera ends and the actual questionably ethical, many times sued, and multiple times accused of sexual misconduct Vince McMahon begins. That blurred line between character and reality is a recurring theme within the WWE Universe. [Pay-per-views are] held in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, as well as twice a year now in Saudi Arabia. A nation that restricts the rights of women in a way that I’m certain Vince McMahon wishes he could,” Rousey said

Rousey’s Venture

Rousey’s book has plenty of things to explore. Mark Bomback was initially in line to write the screenplay. However, she worked with an executive producer, which allowed her to learn the skills required. Once that was done, Rousey wrote the script. Her agents then removed the front page of the script, hiding what Rousey had written, before presenting it to the Netflix executives. Netflix loved the idea and reached out to discover it was Rousey. The rest was history, as Rousey’s project is now underway.

“Former UFC champion and WWE star Ronda Rousey has now found a new challenge to tackle and that is the role of screenwriter. Sources tell Deadline that Rousey has closed a deal to adapt the script for her own biopic at Netflix. It would be based on both her memoirs, My Fight/Your Fight and Our Fight, which she co-wrote with her sister, Maria Burns Ortiz. While their deal isn’t closed, sources say Chernin Entertainment is expected to produce,” Deadline
