Ronda Rousey Bashes Cris Cyborg’s Prior Steroid Use

Ronda Rousey, the former UFC Bantamweight Champion, has called out Cris Cyborg’s prior steroid use.
Rousey is one the most iconic women’s MMA fighters of all time. She made history by becoming the first female to fight under the UFC. She ended up becoming the bantamweight champion and defended the title six times. However, her career ended on bad terms. In 2015, she was knocked out by Holly Holm. A year later, Rousey was stopped again. This time, it came against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 in 2016. Rousey would leave the UFC to join WWE.
She left the organization last year. Rousey was consistently being linked with a return to the UFC following her WWE departure last year. There were suggestions she could have appeared on the UFC 300 card. That never happened, as Dana White ruled it out. Meanwhile, Rousey is focused on motherhood.
Rousey On Cyborg
In contrast, Cyborg is the most successful female MMA fighter ever. She is the only woman to have secured the Grand Slam and has titles in the UFC, Invicta FC, Bellator, and Strikeforce. However, she tarnished her reputation in 2012 when she tested positive for Spironolactone. While Cyborg has remained a clean fighter since then, Rousey never forgot it. She felt this increased the pressure on her to perform and improve the image of women’s MMA.
“People forget how fragile that situation was and how last minute I was able to get us in. Strikeforce was the only organization that was really showcasing women and that was because of Gina Carano, because her dad was involved with the Nevada Athletic Commission… When she was gone, Cris Cyborg’s pumped to the…gills with steroids. No one wants to watch that cheating a*s b*tch, everything just tanked. The division was dying,” Rousey said
Cyborg reacted by ridiculing Rousey’s career.
Rousey On WWE
Despite her achievements, Rousey has divided fans with her comments since leaving the UFC. She opened up on her history of concussions, which she felt were the reasons why her form declined rapidly. Those were seen as excuses, which Rousey publicized in her book ‘OUR FIGHT.’ Rousey also ruffled a few feathers with her comments about Vince McMahon. Rousey looked back at her time in WWE in a negative manner. McMahon has since then been under investigation for sex trafficking. While an investigation is still ongoing, Rousey did not hold back on her comments.
“I think anyone’s better than Vince McMahon. Expecting the Unexpected” graphic novel. “The only place you can go is up. I really enjoy Triple H and working with him, and honestly, I haven’t been watching, but I saw something from Natty [Neidhart] saying that they had a card recently that had just as many women on it as the men. That’s what I would really like to see. The women equally represented with not just matches on the card, but time on the show,” Rousey revealed
Rousey may never fight again, but she has left her mark on MMA which cannot be taken away from her.
