Liz Carmouche vs. Viviane Araujo set for PFL San Diego co-main
Liz Carmouche will face Viviane Araujo in a women’s flyweight bout with championship implications at PFL San Diego on June 27 at Pechanga Arena.
The matchup serves as the co-main event and could determine the next title challenger at 125 pounds, per a promotion release. Carmouche sits second in the PFL flyweight rankings while Araujo holds the ninth spot, as reported by Sherdog.
Carmouche riding momentum from 2025 tournament run
The 42-year-old San Diego native swept the PFL flyweight tournament in 2025 with three straight wins, finishing two by stoppage. Her run included knockouts of Ilara Joanne and Jena Bishop in the finals. That surge followed her lone PFL loss, a 2024 decision to Taila Santos. MMA Fighting reported Carmouche has compiled a 12-1 record since departing the UFC in 2019.
Araujo secured her first PFL victory with a decision over Shanna Young in April after a 7-6 stint in the UFC. The 39-year-old Brazilian beat Karine Silva, Jennifer Maia and Andrea Lee during her time with the promotion but dropped decisions to Tracy Cortez, Natalia Silva and Alexa Grasso before her exit.
Undefeated flyweight Dakota Ditcheva awaits her next assignment after recovering from a hand injury that sidelined her for several months. The winner of Carmouche-Araujo could earn the next crack at the division’s top contender spot. A.J. McKee and Salamat Isbulaev headline the card in a featherweight bout. The main card airs on ESPN2 at 10 p.m. ET.
