Reynoso Praises Garcia’s Left Hook – ‘The Best In The World’

Ryan Garcia was spotted in training, showing off his left hook under the tutelage of his new trainer, Eddy Reynoso.
Garcia decided to return to Reynoso after having had a brief stint with Derrick James. Under James, Garcia secured wins over Oscar Duarte and Devin Haney. But the Haney fight was turned into a no-contest after Garcia failed VADA tests for Ostarine. He was subsequently banned from boxing for a year, meaning that he could not fight until April 2025. His next fight has already been scheduled for May 2 against Rolando Romero, the first under Reynoso.
Ryan Returns
“There’s something new—a new trainer. Yes, we’re back in San Diego, and that’s true. It’s hard not to get along with Eddy Reynoso because we share the same roots. We’ve known each other for a long time. Canelo and Ryan have settled their differences. Everything is back to how it was, and we’re in a good place. We have nothing against Derrick James—he’s a great coach. But last year in Texas, things weren’t as positive as they are hare,” Henry Garcia stated
There are question marks over whether Garcia can recapture the form he showed against Haney. Under James, Garcia found a nice balance between his attacking prowess whilst also being defensively sound. He managed to use his version of the shoulder roll against Haney to block most of The Dream’s attacks. By going back to Reynoso, there are suggestions that Garcia could revert to a more attacking style.
There are dangers that Garcia may make the same fundamental mistakes he has made previously in his career. In the Gervonta Davis fight, Garcia opened up, resulting in him being countered with a left hook in the second round. That ultimately resulted in him getting stopped in the seventh round after Davis landed a countershot to the body. There are also question marks over whether Reynoso can give Garcia enough time.
Ryan And Reynoso
“The reason I switched was because Eddy didn’t really have time to train me and it just wasn’t working out anymore. It was already two weeks in [to training camp] and I hadn’t seen [him] so I was like, ‘You know what? I just need to make a switch,” Ryan said
Ryan initially left Reynoso after suggestions that there was too much focus on Canelo Alvarez. Canelo is the biggest cash cow in the sport. However, the Mexican is entering the latter part of his career, meaning Reynoso may have more time to focus on Ryan. There is also a perception that Ryan could be the next global superstar, given he has the profile to do it.
He has a massive following on social media, and he only requires one major victory to propel him to the next level. If Reynoso can guide him to his first world title, that will do incredible amounts for Ryan’s career. In the meantime, Reynoso was on hand to watch Ryan use his left hook, and he praised it as being the best in the world.
