Pacquiao Shows His Blistering Hand Speed - 'The Man Doesn't Age'

Manny Pacquiao, the eight-division champion, showed off some of his moves at the age of 45, proving that he still has blistering hand speed.

Pacquiao retired from the sport of boxing in 2021 when he lost against Yordenis Ugas. Since then, he has had two exhibition fights. The first was against DK Yoo, beating him by a unanimous decision. The other one was against Rukiya Anpo this year in Japan. It was a three-rounder, but there was no official result. However, Pacman was outboxed, showing that ‘Father Time’ had caught up with him. He was in talks to fight the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios.

This could have been a historic fight since Pacman would have been making a comeback at 45 to break his record for being the oldest welterweight champion. This was in 2019 when he defeated Keith Thurman for the WBA title. At that point, Pacman was 40 years old. However, the talks did not result in a fight getting made, as Barrios will face Abel Ramos on November 15. He will face Ramos on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card, giving Barrios an opportunity to expand his profile.

“The opportunity to step in there with a legend like that is huge. I’ve been watching him since I was a kid. The fact that Pacquiao and Barrios was even being mentioned: I couldn’t really even put it into words. The possibility (of) seeing this man across the ring from me, this other legend. Things fell through with negotiations, figuring the details out, but it’s still definitely a fight I would welcome,” Barrios said

Manny’s Skills

However, Pacman’s manager, Sean Gibbons, has indicated that Manny wants to fight again. Pacquiao was in attendance for the Daniel Dubois vs. Anthony Joshua fight. Gibbons revealed there were talks over facing a boxer in the UK. Amir Khan and Conor Benn were being linked, but that did not result in any fights being made. However, Pacquiao has shown that he still has some fast hands. Manny can be seen shadowboxing as though he is still in his prime.

Nevertheless, it is probably wise that Manny does not make a comeback. He is an eight-division champion with nothing else to prove. Manny gave fans some of the most memorable fights in recent history, including the four bouts Juan Manuel Marquez. He also participated in the ‘Fight of the Century’ in 2015 when he faced off against Floyd Mayweather.

Although he came up short, losing a unanimous decision, it was a fight that fans ultimately got to see. There is also a danger of fighters making comebacks at a later stage. Evander Holyfield made his comeback in 2021 when he faced off against Victor Belfort at the age of 58. Holyfield was dropped in the first round as the fight ended. Since boxers risk so much in the ring, Manny does not need to return.
